JOE MIXON vs BEARS LBs
Quietly lost in the turnovers and defensive scores is the fact that the returning number one rushing defense from last season just let the Tennessee Titans run all over the Bears, on their home field, to the tune of 140 yards. This is a defense that only allowed seven teams to break the century mark all season long and they just let one of last season's worst offenses have their way with them for most of Sunday's debut. Now they are on the road facing a far more potent offense. Long time Bengal, Joe Mixon, made an impressive debut with the Texans on Sunday, running for 159 yards and a healthy 5.3 YPC. On the Bears side, TJ Edwards picked up right where he left off in 2023, leading Chicago in tackles. Big FA signing Tremaine Edmunds had a far quieter day and that is not going to cut it against a Texan offense that already looks like a well oiled machine. Can the Bears bounce back to form and force Stroud to win the game against a talented Bear secondary or will Mixon shine again this week?
FOLORNUNSO FATUKASI & MARION EDWARDS JR vs BEARS INTERIOR OL
Houston's defensive line took it's biggest hit before the season even started losing FA signing Denico Autry to a six game suspension. That left the Texans pairing up Jacksonville castoff Folorunso Fatukasi with Seattle castoff Mario Edwards to form the interior of their defensive line and they had a great debut with each registering their first sacks of the young season. Bad news for Bears fans as they watching their interior offensive line spend most of last Sunday being flat out abused. I know all eyes are going to be on the Wright/Anderson rematch, but the Bears interior OL has to perform worlds better on Sunday night to even keep this game competitive.
STEFON DIGGS & TANK DELL vs JAYLON JOHNSON & TYRIQUE STEVENSON
Speaking of defensive pairs with a great debut in Week One, Bear cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson & Tyrique Stevenson also each notched their first interceptions of the young season, the latter taking his into the endzone for the game winning score. While the circumstances on paper look the same, second year QB with speedy receivers, the Texan offense is far more polished than the one Tennessee showed up at Solider Field with. That starts with the big trade the Texans made in the offseason for Bills superstar receiver Stefon Diggs, who already rewarded his new offense with two touchdown catches in his Texan debut. On the other side is last season's break out rookie Tank Dell. Dell's rookie season saw him set a franchise rookie record for receiving scores in just 11 games, but his season ended early due to a broken fibula. While his debut was quiet, he looked healthy and still commanded an equal target share. If the Bears talented corners can silence the Texans talented receivers, Chicago could walk away from the biggest Prime Time upset of the young season.
