Okay time to get serious about the moves the Hawks will need to make. Getting concerned as I've read a couple articles that Kane/Toews are due large bonuses due to their playoff performances and those bonuses count against the cap. So damn!

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else and also don't feel the need to start a new thread for this kind of pickup, but the Hawks did sign Persson from the KHL (he's a Sweede). He is a defensive C/W and could potentially be in the mix for replacing Madden as a 3rd/4th line C.

He's also 31.

They also signed Mathis Olimb from Norway. Been compared to Kris Versteeg just a big smaller and not as much skill.

Blackhawks sign Norwegian center

Staff report

The Blackhawks signed center Mathis Olimb to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

Olimb, 24, had 34 points in 55 regular-season games for Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League during the 2009-10 season.

The Oslo, Norway, native represented his country in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, ranking second on the club with two assists in four games.

Olimb spent the 2004-05 season in Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting and London Knights, where he was a teammate of Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland.

Kruger was retained (signed 3 year deal) a couple of days ago and says he wants to remain/develop in Sweden at least another year.

If Kruger continues to develop and possibly reach his ceiling, Bollie could find himself in a battle with him for the 2nd line center position.

It's possible. I think a lot depends on Bollie's offensive game continues to progress (which really didn't after he returned from back surgery until the playoffs) and how healthy his back can remain.

Bollie has a cap hit of 3.375 for the next 4 seasons.

if he played like he did in the playoffs (same goes for buff actually) they are both easily worth their salaries

You won't find a disagreement from me, but you will from others (especially regarding Byfuglien)..since he sooooo easily replaceable...

how can you argue that? 17 goals and 17 assists (his regular season numbers) arent worth his salary

Meh, I'm a bit old school - the season doesn't really start until the playoffs. It's not as easy to get into the playoffs as it was before, but his occasional regular season "coasting" isn't going to cost this team a playoff spot.

very true, but if we can unload salary to get a comparible talent with something to prove (someone from Rockford) I would do that in a heartbeat

Aye, there's the rub (and I would also include size).
