Major League Soccer: The MLS is trying to place a second team in the New York City area as the league's 20th franchise and is looking at two or three possible sites for a soccer stadium. The league has also had discussions with groups in Detroit, Las Vegas, and Florida as possibilities for the next expansion team. The Florida group is reported to be the ownership of the Orlando City team in the United Soccer Leagues Pro League. The future of the league's DC United franchise in the Washington (DC) area is uncertain due to the high operating costs at its current stadium. There has been talk of possibly moving the team to the Baltimore area or some other location if that does not work out.

So New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, or Detroit. If NYC looses out, I want Detroit the most, but really would like all of these.

Vegas would be shit in every aspect except for the visiting fans and teams (especially if their team wins).

Orlando is probably the most stable across the board of all the groups discussed.

NYC2 seems to be a bit more pushed than real, if that makes sense. The league wants it there, so they're helping out in the under the table kind of ways--but that doesn't make it real. The Burrough Boys are organised and waiting--as long is NYC2 isn't the Cosmos; and I think that is part of the problem.

Detroit as an option is intriguing, but not strong. The ownership owns the Silverdome and wants to retrofit it--but that is a HUGE cavern for an MLS team....let alone an MLS team in a questionable market. Their organised fans (the Motor City something-or-others) are about 15-20 at most, so they aren't dazzling anyone there. The rest of the finances would have to be demonstrated more concretely than I think they have (although, to be fair, I am not privvy to that info) in order for them to get a solid nod.

At this point, if NYC2 doesn't happen, expect Orlando.

I'd be fine with Orlando, fill in the hole in the Southeast.
