The soft cap in the NBA for next season will be around 58 million dollars.
Players who will still be on the books (assuming Boozer is amnestied or trade for expiring contracts) -
Derrick Rose - 18.86 million
Joakim Noah - 13.1 million
Taj Gibson - 8 million
Mike Dunleavy - 3 million
Tony Snell - 1.5 million
Jimmy Butler - 2.1 million
Marquis Teague - 1.12 million
That's a total of 48 million dollars and change. That gives the Bulls 10 million dollars to sign FA's.
The MLE will likely be used to bring Mirotic over on a 3yr/5million dollar salary, which will effectively eat all of our MLE and he should be deserving of it, hopefully...
Now, lets look at some notable free agent SG's and SF's for next season who could realistically be available, be a notable add and had with that money -
Evan Turner
Lance Stephenson
And that's about it. Lebron ain't coming to Chicago and Melo won't come play for 10 million either.
So let's say the Bulls go and get Lance Stephenson for 5-6 million next year and a backup PG like Ramon Sessions for like 3 million.
Then we cash in the Charlotte pick, we get a lottery pick around the 7 spot and we get around the 15 spot from Charlotte. I would say we grab a wingman and a big respectively. Around those two spots I would say it wouldn't be a stretch if we got Gary Harris (a combo guard who mainly plays SG) and Adreain Payne out of Michigan State. We might keep one of the 2nd rounders as well.
What the Bulls could look like in 2014/2015
PG - Rose/Sessions/Teague
SG - Stephenson/Harris/Snell
SF - Butler/Dunleavy/Snell
PF - Gibson/Mirotic/Payne
C - Noah/Payne
Bottom line - Bulls aren't banking on any big FA's but rather their draft picks and Mirotic so don't expect any big FA signings or any real immediate chances at an NBA title unless GarPax pull something out of their ass. Look to be a solid team again next year but not REAL contenders for another 2-3 maybe 4 seasons when our draft picks develop and hopefully pan out.
