Black Friday 2014

The 5th annual Black Friday thread on CCS! It's never too early to start planning out and checking out the ads. I'll keep this thread updated as I get tips, ads and other information.

Something to remember: Black Friday pre-sales and early bird sales are great. Wal-Mart usually runs them a few Saturday's before BF with great deals on TV's, electronics, etc. If online is your thing, go big on BF and Cyber Monday! The deals are great and you can avoid lines.

Target will host a 3-day event. Wonder if the good deals will be on Thursday Night/Black Friday or all 3 days

If there was a really good deal on a PS4 I might consider shopping on Thanksgiving day, but it better be a dang good deal

That's my plan -- new TV for the living room, a PS4 and some online shopping for some bits for my stereo restoration.

I remember going out last year but don’t remember if we went out late Thursday night or early Friday. I do know that the crowds were mostly gone by the time we got to a number of stores because they started the sales so early on Thursday. It was really odd compared to years past where all the stores were filled with wall-to-wall people.

We’ve bought less stuff on BF as the years have gone by. I’m not sure if that’s a result of the sales being worse or just us not wanting/needing more stuff.

My kids are pretty easy to buy for so we usually pick up things throughout the year and put them away for Christmas presents.

We might go out and get a couple things just because it’s become a tradition for us but I doubt will be filling our trunk up like we’ve done before.

I seem to be turning into my dad. When someone asks me what I want for Christmas I have trouble coming up with anything.

I saw a bundle the other day that was a damn good deal.

The price won't be great, probably around $400 still for Black Friday but a lot of places will include games, controllers, etc.

Well for a PS4 with controllers and games, $400 is not unreasonable, especially if I can go and sell off the games I don't want for a decent price. Where'd you see that?

My dad got in line at Best Buy at 4 AM a few years ago to get a new flat screen that was being advertised in their Black Friday ad. He was one of the first in line and when he raced inside, they didn't have any in stock. He was pissed. So he freaked out and threw his coffee. (My dad is a very impatient man who does not tolerate stupidity). The next day my step mom wrote a letter to the CEO complaining about how they advertised a special price for that TV and they didn't even carry it in the store. She vowed to never shop their again. BAM....a month later we had a new huge television.

Black Friday is fun.

The first time I found out about BF I was 16 and working at a toy store in a mall. I came into work and was like "Wow, we are really busy today." My manager looked at me and said "Its the Black Friday. The busiest shopping day of the year". I had never heard of it before that.

The first year I went out on BF as a shopper I went to Target at like 5AM to get a Bouncing Tigger for my kids. IIRC, this was a year or so after the huge Tickle-me Elmo craze so sometime in the late 90's. There were no lines to get into the store so I got right in and grabbed one. Then I headed to the registers. Every single one had at least 4 people with carts full of stuff.

I got into one of the lines and the people in front of me saw that I only had one thing, so they let me go in front of them. Then I went home and went back to bed.

The worst experience I ever had was the time I went to Circuit City to get Guitar Hero. Their computer system crashed and I had to wait in the checkout line for like 3 hours.

The one and only time I stood outside and waited in line (I was like the 10th one back) was at a Gamestop type store where I picked up a Wii fit.

Both the Guitar Hero and the Wii Fit are collecting dust now. So probably not the best use of my time/money.
