Looks like you gotta stop Patrik Laine. Wonder who the shut down D pair will be when he is on the ice.

Should be marked for tomorrow the 12th though.

For Dach's first game I would go this route

Shaw-Toews-Dach
Cat-Strome-Kane
Saad-Kampf-Kubalik
Jewels-Carp-Smith

I actually think that 12 could cause some havoc. Would be a great game to deploy as Shaw earned the look and Nylander could take a day of reflection or stay on the line with Shaw, sub Dach/Kampf. Dach needs to be accounted for by guys eyes on a swivel, Shaw pesters your emotions, and Toews is always coming...and thats probably the weakest line in terms of matching the competition. Maybe Shaw and Toews don't see enough offense in that scenario but I think Dach would help them out and get to play with his idol.

Jewels-Toews-Kane
Cat-Strome-Kubalik
Saad-Kampf/Dach-Shaw
Perlini-Carp-Smith

is where I think this season ends up.

These are lines at practice today

DeBrincat-Toews-Caggiula
Shaw-Strome-Kane
Saad-Kampf-Kubalik
Smith-Carpenter-Perlini

Looks like the band is back together on line 3

Terrible...I already want to punch Colloton in the face real hard.

Time to trade Perlini AND Koekkoek, and one of Murphy or Gus. Decide.

Even without Dach they can bring up Kurashev, the better defensive reinforcements are here. Murphy is a waste of a 200 lb body and yet needed to bail out the speed of 3 top 6 defenders.

I really like this squad, but they need to give up on average guys and keep trying to fill those slots.

Nylander, Perlini, Koekoek are noticeably not as good as the rest.

Murphy and Gus just don't need to be here. Rather see Bovqist and Beudin fast tracked from here in about a month. Hopefully by Christmas they do some housekeeping.

This early schedule looks like its going to roll us on Collotons fucktard learning curve. His ideas suck. His visualization of line balance can't be looking at the weaknesses of players I am seeing.

Oh yeah....Cat-Toews-Jewels will fix it.

What in the actual **** man?

I guess what is happening is when a new coach comes in, they have had their own life and interests and responsibilities to earn the credentials to get to that point, while some fans have watched Q spin the lines 1000 times and we intimately know the traits of the Hawks players for years.

Colloton doesn't know what Shaw is, he just see's the two goals and offensive chances, production and thinks his best line is going to be Shaw-Strome-Kane. Why wouldn't it be Cat-Strome-Kane? If something is wrong with that then Strome-Kane might be an option but it won't be Shaw long term.

My point is the line-up looks selected by sample size, rather than what appears common sense to many fans.

It could work, something needs to change. Just reeks of desperation and a lack of experience with the roster compared to the fans. We've seen this movie and he should reach out to some locals or staff members to get some ideas. Carrying to much weight on his shoulders and looking desperate.

In hindsight Colloton made a big stride and finally realized he needs to split up Kane and Toews. He doesn't have the right players to fix it without splitting up Kampf-Kubalik. He didn't want to leave Toews toothless so he gave him Cat.

In the long term I see good solutions. They just need to split up Kampf-Kubalik because Kubalik solves the top 6.

Jewels-Toews-Kubalik
Cat-Strome-Kane
Saad-Kampf/Dach-Shaw
Perlini/Nylander/Dach-Carp-Smith

is just my preference, or getting Perlini back in with Strome-Cat just for a look, because if Perlini fits there he fits there. But Strome turning into the perfect center for Kane is a great development and Cat might not be the best third.

Saad/Dach/Kubalik-Toews-Cat/Jewels/Shaw
Kubalik/Cat-Strome-Kane
Cat/Jewels/Shaw-Kampf-Cat/Jewels/Shaw
Dach-Carp-Smith

I think you have to break it up like that.

Cat/Jewels/Shaw.....

Thats where I don't want two on a line and don't particularly like one across from Kane.

Kubalik-Strome-Kane would be a wicked line. Cat and Strome can see each other on the power play and for fun.

While I was harsh initially, Shaw/CAt/Jewels are hard players to place in balance and splitting Toews Kane I think is the best way to get us to stop playing

5-6 games.

Maybe its not the defense but Colloton? Teams are already trying to bully us and each line needs protection. I'd send Nylander or Perlini down and keep Dach personally because he solves a top 9 line or has the versatility to cruise with the 4th guys.

I just see Kubalik benefiting from having a guy that will go in the corners and fight for pucks. That is not there with Toews and Kane. It is there with Kampf, Shaw or Jewels. I guess some will say, so get his ass in the corner and get the puck, but we also see too much of that too. Three a side of guys trying to get one puck and nobody in any type of dangerous shooting position, the D is so slow they are afraid to leave the blue line.
I mean, when JC started here, he knew enough to pair up keith and broke, Toews and Kane. It puts down the guys behind them.

Its a good point. Kubalik does thrive on a little chaos like you said, however, at 24 and 6'1...he is also capable of going to the corner and dishing a puck to Kane.

I think with Kane the issue you bring up is mitigated by the number of times Kane can hold the puck and freeze the defense. by the increase in possession with Kane on the ice.

Kubalik isn't a problem, you can play him lots of places...its about what does that leave the other lines and is his best skill getting high leverage situations frequently enough. If there is a better slap shot on the team I haven't seen it. That alone warrants a look with Kane, perhaps with both Toews and Strome.

Its funny we talk about speed but a 40 year old was a breathe away from a hat trick on us.

Dach is off the injured list, assigned to Rockford for "conditioning" purposes.

Lets hope he does not get concussed there.

He is only allowed the first nine or the last nine if they want to keep his year of control right? I dont know if those are scheduled games of actual games played. Seems like they wanted to keep him around as much as possible while on the injured list, but when they had? to take him off of it, I guess it would have cost a move of Perlini or Nylander to keep him here? I only see 22 on the active, I thought they could have 23.

Either way, Dach expects to play tonight so maybe he puts up 4 or 5 points and is right here and we go thinking he could have done that tonight.

Nice coaching by JC. Hiding their lack of team speed but juicing up the forecheck causing some really bad Jet passes. You can win in this league without top speed but it's difficult with more wear and tear on the frontlines.
