are not first round picks. They are 2nd, 3rd and 6th round picks. And outside of Peyton, look at all the highest drafted QBs this weekend ...

Luck (#1 overall) - beaten by 6th round pick
Newton (#1 overall) - beaten by 2nd round pick

Even Brees, who himself was not a #1 pick but is an elite QB, was beaten by a team with a 3rd round pick.

But #14 overall in the first round isn't high enough to get a QB you can win with?

Are you serious with this shit.....damn you dont giver up...hoiw many 6th round QB's go on to become Brady or how many third round picks go on to become Wilson.....thruth be told many more 1st round cant miss turm out like Ryan Leaf then the Qb's above...

Oh you can definitely get a franchise QB at No. 14.

But perhaps Emery and Co. thought it more important to get a franchise player on the defensive side of the ball, considering the swiss cheese-like nature of the Bears defense from the Washington game til the end of the season.

We get it, bearmick. You don't like the Cutler move. If it blows up in the Bears face in a year or two or three, feel free to tout your genius. But threads like this are just incessant whining at this point. Cutler's not going anywhere. Accept it. Move on. Find another topic.

These young QBs who had such good first year seasons as starters won't last, they said. The league will catch up to them, they said. Yet here they are facing each other in the NFC title game. How 'bout that?

I think mick's point was directed at the posters who are constantly saying that drafting a QB would be a stupid move. You can argue mick's post has another agenda behind it, but the point still stands...you don't need the overall #1 pick in order to find a QB that can lead a team to the playoffs and to the Conference Championship early in their careers.

Is that of interest to you, or are you just desperately trying to cover up the fact that the Bears just blew their next three years by signing your favorite player instead of getting a young guy to compete with the better teams?

Fair point.

Just for the sake of discussion, the last five QBs to win a Super Bowl and their draft positioning: 18, 1, 24, 32, 11

If picking/recognizing a superbowl cailber QB was easy then all of those guys would have been 1st round picks. You pretty much have to not only scout well, but get kind of lucky. Rarely is there a QB that comes out that almost everyone agrees will be great or even good. Look at Ryan Leaf whom everyone thought you couldn't lose picking between him and Peyton. More recently look at Ponder or Freeman (picked later but the general consensus was that he'd end up as one of the top QBs from that class). Sam Bradford hasn't been terrible, but he's hardly been worth the $80mil he's made. Jimmy Clausen, the next highest QB taken (im not counting Tebow since most people figured he wouldn't be any good anyway) lasted all of a year before losing his job.

I don't think the Bears were saying they can't get a QB that can win with the 14th pick. But any QB pick is a gamble and they felt like they'd rather chance it with Cutler first than take that gamble.

Also the 3 QBs you named, none were drafted to start as rookies, and only 1 won the job for opening day. So even if you find a QB late usually you don't expect him to play right away anyway.

No it's more to the point of irrelevant facts being posted to advance your agenda. How about 7 of the last 8 SB champion QB's being first round picks. If your goal is for the Bears to make it to the NFC championship game, maybe a post 1st rd QB is enough.

Or to point out, that on a day that there is relevant news concerning the Bears, your first inclination is to make a new anti-Cutler thread. Is it always groundhog day for you?

Or your insistence that anyone not having a horseshit opinion of Cutler is a meatball fanboy. He is not in my top 5 favorite current Bears by the way.

Or finally, your completely baseless mantra that there is zero chance they won't suck until they get a young guy to complete with other teams. As if the is no downside to that scenario ( See Bears QB's 1990-2008 ).

Football is a team game. Tom Brady, Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson don't play defense but they did have the better defenses on their sides.

I did this a year ago, before the last draft and before the Ravens won the Superbowl.

It's kind of dumb.... but whatever, it's kind of related to this thread.

Those are the number of QB's drafted in each round of the last... idk how many I have there.. 40 drafts. Or I think I did it for just the Superbowl era.

29 of those QB's won a Superbowl. Now 30 with Joe Flacco.

17 of them were 1st round picks.

8 of the 17 were first overall picks. 6 of the 17 were top 7 picks.

So in the Superbowl era, 17 of the quarterbacks that won were 1st round picks, and 12 weren't.

I could still see the Bears taking a QB in the draft this year.

Well according to Mick Colin Kaepernick is going to be the best player in the NFL for the next 7 years and dominate the league so really what does it matter what the Bears do at QB? The 49ers are just going to win the next 7 SB's anyways so what's the point. No sense wasting a pick on a QB who's going to be no match for soon to be HOF legend Kaepernick. IMO we should probably just wait until he retires before the Bears draft a new QB.

Perhaps the best solution here would be for Mick to become a 49ers fan for the next 7 years and spare us all from his endless Cutler whining.

You know, I watched that Colts/Pats game, and all I can say is Luck: WTF?

Its like there is no short or intermediate routes in the playbook? Luck kept chucking downfield, downfield, downfield, over and over and over.

Meanwhile, Brady gets the ball, and carves up the Colts underneath, and only goes deep when its open.

Ugh, that was ugly.

13 of 25 for 198 is carving up the Colts? I'd think that the 230+ rushing yards and 6 rushing TDs had more to do with carving up the Colts than Tom Brady.

Most of them picked later than the bears pick this year. Not surprising.

Kaepernick is only two games away from winning a Superbowl !

Football is a team game. Tom Brady, Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson don't play defense but they did have the better defenses on their sides.

Cutler benefited from one of the best defenses and #1 scoring and turnover defense in football and still missed the playoffs almost every year, so it's a bit rich for you to be bringing that up.
