DSL 2

DSL 2 is usually our B team, but they finished 18 games over .500 and won their division by 8.5 games while the usual A team, the DSL Cubs1, finished 17 games under .500 in their's.

Normally that is true, but the Cubs stockpiled DSL 2 with the better prospect from DSL 1 midseason to load up for the playoff run because 2 was doing better than 1. The Cubs have a tendency to load one team up for a playoff run, and usually it is DSL 1.

Minors are being stocked up

To be fair, team record in the minors does not correlate to the quality of the farm system. Teams with a bunch of older non prospects at various leagues will often do better than the more talented, prospect laden teams. That said it is nice to see some success in the system, and knowing that there are a few interesting guys almost here and a lot more down the road.

We've had more international scouting and more success out of the draft recently.

They are being stocked up.

I agree that the farm is on the upswing. I was merely pointing out that the postseason appearances of our affliates don't show that fact.

Good point, Dab. That was the case here with the A's affiliate a couple of years ago. There were really only three or four worthwhile prospects here, with a bunch of 25-26 year olds that weren't ever going to sniff the majors. Wound up getting to the Texas League championships. The guys that led the way were Josh Donaldson, Matt Spencer, Chris Carter, Graham Godfrey, and Sam Demel. Everyone else was basically a non prospect trying to earn that 60K. When the team won the first half title, which guaranteed them a playoff spot later in the year (odd how that works to be honest), the As dumped a few guys form their AAA team here to make that push. Again, a lot of guys they had no hopes of making it to the big leagues.
