That was one of the best things I'd seen on TV in a long time. I'm going to say that other than Paul and Ringo, While My Guitar Gently Weeps was my favorite part.

Anyone else watch it?

  2. Orlando Magic
  3. Phoenix Suns
  4. Sacramento Kings
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets
Yeah, very good for the most part. Some people bombed like those 4 nitwits that did Revolution and the pencil necked geek that did the first 2 songs. Joe Walsh was terrific

I didn't like the younger performer for the most part. Joe Walsh was great as usual. I didn't mind The band doing Revolution, but didn't like Katy Perry and the girl singing Let it Be. She over sang it.

I watched the replay last night. Overall, very mediocre. Seemed like a lot of performers were out of their element. Many couldn't pull off a Beatles song which goes to show how great they were. Seemed like a love fest for Hollywood..At least I can say Joe Walsh plays thru the same Fender Supersionic amp that I do..lol

Pro's

Joe Walsh and Gary Clark Jr. stole the show with "While My Guitar gently Weeps"
McCartney was very good..Looks to have the same band as he did when he did the halftime show. ( at least the same birdseye maple 335)
John Legend was decent
Maroon 5 was OK

Con's

Katie Perry was horrible
Annie Lennox should have been taken out back and shot
John Mayer sucked (as usual)
Ringo was amateurish out front
WTF was Brad Paisley doing singing a Beatles song?..Someone take that stupid hat off Pharrell Williams
Johnny Depp should stick to movies
WTF was Sean Penn giggling at? I didn't know introducing McCartney was a joke

I pretty much agree with you except:

-Ringo isnt amateurish. I have seen him live with his all star band and it's as much fun as you can have at a concert. Ringo is not a front man nor ever pretended to be. He is just out there having fun. For example the peace sign he gives while singing is part of his trademark. You go to his concerts and all night the fans are giving him the peace sign. That's part of his charm.

-There are much more appropriate people that could have dont those songs. There was a Lennon tribute around 1991 in London that had the right rock stars playing their songs. The white house tribute to McCartney 5 years ago had the right people. Those people the other night were chosen for TV and ratings purposes.

-McCartney's band has been around forever. He has a terrible reputation of being cheap and doesnt pay them like you think he might. McCartney is incredibly detailed and strict that the songs need to be played note for note against the original recording. And they do it. His drummer is one of the best in the world and copies Starr note for note

-My wife and I were talking about the Annie Lennox performance. We like her and she has a great voice but the wrong voice for the song she was given. Again, Hollywood trying to shoehorn the perfromer into the song

My wife and I both said the same thing..Many performers were out of their element

As far as McCartney, you are correct..I have a friend I grew up with that played with Brian Wilsons band for years ( as you know, Wilson used to live in St Charles Il)..He knows McCartney very well..McCartney is fiendishly detailed about all those old Beatle songs..In fact, when the producers tried to get approval to use Twist and Shout for "Ferris Buellers day Off",McCartney was impossible to deal with..I guess McCartney has the rights to that song even though he didnt write it..He didnt like the fact that a marching band would be playing on the song. He held out approval till the last minute, the the movie producers had to sell their souls to get him to give in.

That being said, my friend also says that McCartney is still a regular guy in all other aspects..He would show up in a heartbeat to play at a friends picnic,, party etc..
