The Blackhawks have traded minor league forward Brandon Segal to the Tampa Bay Lightning for future considerations.

Segal has scored 13 goals, 12 assists along with adding 63 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Rockford IceHogs this season. The 28 year old has appeared in 92 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, and Tampa Bay Lightning over three seasons, recording 11 goals and 11 assists in his NHL career.

Also, the Rockford IceHogs have acquired Matt Fornataro from the Norfolk Admirals.

Fornataro, 25, has yet to make his NHL debut. He has spent the last three seasons with the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, appearing in 161 games while compiling 33 goals, 52 assist along with a plus-8 rating.

BREAKING NEWS: the Rockford #IceHogs have acquired forward Matt Fornataro from the Norfolk Admirals. (as per Joves posts)

The "future consideration" came rather fast.

Small deal but it works. Ship off a life long AHLer for a possibility? Never a bad thing.

Fornataro is not the "future considerations"

The Blackhawks traded Segal for future considerations, and the IceHogs acquired Fornataro from the Admirals. I know, it's confusing, but I'm almost 100% positive these two deals are unrelated.

Admirals are the Bolts farm team so I considered that to be the deal. My bad. Segal isn't going to get any return so whatever the deal its good if it opened space for Fornataro on the farm. If a late pick is involved later even better. Not sure what Stevie Y and Norfolk see in Segal but more power to them. Its a minor league deal.

I thought the same thing you did at first.

I have no problem with this, if the Hawks get a late pick out of it, it's a win.

Are we at or near 50 NHL contracts? If so, an Segal was on a Hawks contract and this other guy is on a Hogs contract that means we can now trade and add a contract...so it very well might be a domino.

I believe the Hawks have 47 players under contract with this deal (assuming Fornataro is not signed to an NHL contract/Hawks property)
