Well, it feels just like yesterday that the Hawks were parading around Chicago while Corey Crawford[/b] was calling us all f-ing "beauties" and letting us know that the team played their f-ing nuts off.
Alright so it was yesterday, but if anything that just goes to show you how little time the front office has had to actually celebrate their successful season before going straight back to work.
Tomorrow, the NHL holds it's annual Entry draft in <del class='bbc'>a dumpster</del> Newark, New Jersey. For some young prospects, this will be the highlight of their career (i.e. Hugh Jessiman) while for many others, this will be the first stepping stone towards their ultimate goal of playing in the NHL.
This years draft could see a bit more entertainment than usually reserved in years past (which is usually as exciting as watching the neutral zone trap being employed).
With the salary cap for the 2013-2014 season dropping, many teams need to find a way to get under the cap while also fielding a competitive team.
Many players already are being mentioned in trade speculation that you normally would assume are off limits (Tyler Seguin[/b]). Other players are being mentioned for the 102nd time and more than likely will be for the next 9 seasons (do I really need to say his name anymore?). Chicago's very own Dave Bolland[/b] has been mentioned numerous times this past week about being on the trade block and one would assume if the Hawks have any takers, he is as good as gone.
Another interesting bit of drama going on is if anyone in Colorado is actually this stupid to skip out on a franchise defenseman for another skilled forward?
Since the lottery has been held, many have assumed Seth Jones[/b], a 6'4" American defenseman playing out of Portland of the WHL, would be the consensus #1 pick for the Avs; a team who is very thin on defensive depth but has plenty of skilled forwards. That was until Joe Sakic[/b] decided to let everyone know the Avs would not be taking Jones with the 1st pick and instead are leaning towards Nathan MacKinnon[/b], a highly skilled two-way center from Halifax of the QMJHL. Both players are said to be safe picks, but one must wonder why a team that already boasts forwards such as Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly, Stastny would add another when they currently lack any solid defensemen (though they have some quality prospects, the jury is still out on them).
What to know for the Blackhawks.[/b]
The Hawks, who will be picking last (30th) in the 1st round (that's what happens when you work your f-ing nuts off) are supposedly interested in taking a puck moving defensemen with their first pick. Out of all the positions within our system, defense seems to be our thinnest, though, we do have some promising prospects coming up within the next few years with Olsen, Clendening and Johns. It wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks take another forward in the 1st round, especially if a highly-touted pick falls into their lap like last year with Teuvo Teräväinen.
Who most likely might be available.[/b]
Ian McCoshen[/b] - Ian, who ISS had last ranked #28 sounds like a prototypical defensemen the Hawks could be looking to add. At 6'2'' and 207 pounds, he's looked at as more of a defensive defenseman, though he is good at moving the puck and creating offense from the backend. He's also committed to Boston College, where he gets the benefit of 4 additional years of development.
Shea Theodore [/b]- Shea, a 6'2" 182 pound defensemen out of Seattle of the WHL, is a solid puck moving defensemen who can also join in on the rush. Was able to put up 50 points on a weak Seattle team. Was selected to play for the U-18 team in Russia..
Dillon Heatherington[/b] - Dillon, a 6'3" 196 pound defenseman out of Swift Current in the WHL, is more of a physical defenseman than the other two skaters above. Though a decent puck mover, he "isn't one to cheat or cut corners" and takes his defensive play seriously.
