Only nine days after the winning the Stanley Cup, Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has already made two trades (Dave Bolland[/b] to Toronto, Michael Frolik [/b]to Winnipeg) and now completed his second signing of the summer by inking Nick Leddy[/b] to a two-year bridge contract (first was Bryan Bickell[/b]'s four year extension).

Leddy, 22, was set to become a restricted free agent (RFA) this summer. Over the past two seasons he had perfect attendance, appearing in 130 out of 130 regular-season games. He scored nine goals and added 46 assists (55 points), along with a plus-3 rating during that stretch.

Other details regarding his contract, such as the cap hit, are unknown at this time. Stay tuned.

EDITORS NOTE — Leddy's cap hit will be $2.7 million per year according to CapGeek. In 2013-2014, Leddy will make $2 million, and in 2014-2015 that number will increase to $3.4 million.[/i]

If it is indeed 2-2.5M, That won't be too bad.

Five years ago, Cam Barker (22?) signed a three year deal that had a $3,083,333 cap hit. He had 40 points in his contract year.

Leddy, also 22, scored 18 points this past year — which translates to about 30-31 points in a full season. He had 37 points the year prior.

Given the five year difference, adding inflation, Leddy should be at around $2.8-3.2M per year if you compare him to Barkers production IMO. Anything less than that shows that Tallon was irresponsible with his money. (Honestly, not trying to troll here, just IMO... maybe my opinion is off though)

I tried comparing Leddy to Keith, since they are more similar in play... but realistically their career paths are completely different, and that's why Keith's contract was so low (his rookie year was when his EL contract was expiring). So that's why I used Barker to compare. Obviously I think Leddy has a brighter future, but the numbers and their paths compare more-so than Keith/Leddy.

Wasn't the Barker contract one of those that were flubbed in the qualifying offer fiasco and that possibly increased it?

Either way, I like the the 2-year bridge contract. Leddy has shown potential, but not enough to warrant a long big money deal. Hopefully the money is right too.

Barker also was showing signs of development which warranted his contract. Unfortunately, his development stopped and took a nose dive.

Not really. He negotiated it with Tallon directly without his agent. Same with Versteeg.

Can live with that deal. And Leddy should too, he makes more in a year than most do in a whole lifetime.
