[A] Olsen Sent Down; Montador Activated

Dylan Olsen's taste of NHL action is over with Steve Montador activated off IR and ready to get back in the line-up for the Hawks.



In his 2 NHL games, Olsen managed to stay even with a plus-minus of zero which is fairly impressive considering the Blackhawks conceded 9 goals in both games while only scoring 4. The Blackhawks 1st round pick (28th overall) in 2009 was also able to jump into the fray offensively--putting 4 pucks on net along with bringing his physical demeanor to the line-up by finishing 6 hits.



Although many consider him to be raw, he didn't really have much of an issue with Joel Quenneville allowing him to play just over 15 minutes against the Avalanche on Friday and could be a viable option later in the season if the Blackhawks cannot pick up a defense-man through the trade market.



Steve Montador returns to the line-up after suffering an undisclosed injury December 30th against the Red Wings. Monty missed 3 games which all resulted in losses for the Blackhawks. The versatile defense-man has 5 goals and 5 assists on the year including 1 game-winner. The Blackhawks are 24-10-4 with him in the line-up and 0-3-0 without him dressed.

I agree. I wasn't overly impressed with him but I did see a lot of things I did like. He was definitely better than any of the guys we currently have in the revolving #6 slot.

I thought at time that he made some poor passes in his own end, pucks that either did not make it out over the blue line or to their intended recipient. Other than that, I thought he played ok.

I'm thinking its more for TOI reasons. With Montador back, I doubt Dylan would get as much time as he should get down in Rockford. I totally agree with what you said, though, too.

I have been very encouraged by Olsen's play since the first time I saw him play 2-3 years back in a tryout game for the Canadian IIHF Junior team, paired with Lalonde. I thought that night he out-played Lalonde, though neither player was named to the IIHF team, and I saw just one game.



I also thought he did a real nice job this time though we have to remember he was exposed to the top lines of opponents much and there is nothing wrong with letting him get some more seasoning before permenently putting him under the spotlight. He will certainly make it easy for O'Donnell to retire at the end of the season!

Dylan looked ok with some poor pass decision, will be good down the stretch... Just have to ask, Conolly is a point per game D down in Rockford and Lalonde has been on peoples lips for years. How come non of them has givin a chance in Chicago?



I Have not seen any of them play, so anyone with some input?

Lalonde tore it up in juniors. I have seen him live about 3x in Rockford (a couple years ago) and he looked solid against AHL talent. Maybe he just had a few good games because his stats haven't been all that great.



I always compared his style of play (not physical stature) to Seabrook. Right now another Seabrook is just what this team needs.

I thought Olsen was more of a Seabrook-type than Lalonde. I thought Lalonde was more of a Wisniewski-type, maybe a little Brian Campbell mixed with that.

Didnt people call for him to start with the Hawks in trainging camp in our SC winning season?
