If cleveland wins this year, shouldn't it be reasonable for lebron to take his 1 year option?

his team is old and only growing older
he can get a max contract anytime he wants
why not wait a year to start looking for other teams next year? if lebron stays, the cavs have a chance to be really good for the next 2 years.

both mo and antawn should start to decline in about 2 years. shaq and z are really old, and not fit to be in the nba much longer. they have a crap load of bad contracts, BUT at the moment they're really good.

maybe lebron should just sign for a 3 year contract.

no, after the new cba max contracts will most likely be less valuable than they are today and probably not guaranteed through the length of the contract.

Ditto. He'd be stupid to opt in. No way he does it.

In the past existing deals have been grandfathered in, even though they would be in excess of the max (which is why guys like Shaq get to have monster contracts). There's a good chance with a new CBA that players who sign their deal under the current agreement will be better off.

Bron is not opting in. He will have his pick of where to play and will get the most money. He might take another 3 yr deal but he isn't going to opt in. It just makes very little sense. Even if Clev sucks, bron will just demand a trade.

i did not know, so does that mean we're going to see more max contracts for max years?

Well I think guys who have the option to get a new contract would be crazy not to, even if they get paid less next year. Especially if the owners decide to play hardball and there's a lockout, that will hurt the older players who might miss a year before being able to sign a new contract.
