Jimmy Hayes has been recalled from Rockford after the Blackhawks have gone 1-7-1 in his absence. In 13 games this season, Hayes has posted 3 goals and 4 assists along with a minus-1 rating for the Blackhawks, while notching 7 goals and 16 assists in 33 games for Rockford in his first pro season.
In his place, Andrew Shaw sees himself returning to Rockford after a 19 game stint with the Blackhawks. During his visit, he posted 5 goals and 4 assists along with a minus-7 rating. In 33 games for the IceHogs, Shaw has scored 12 goals and 9 assists along with 80 PIM.
With Shaw seeing his ice-time drop in the last 10 games, coupled with a poor performance against the Rangers, it's no surprise to see the Blackhawks switch up their options with so much youth in the system. Although Shaw's effectiveness has dropped game-by-game, his future with the Blackhawks remains brighter than ever, from being drafted in the 5th round last year to his debut to the NHL merely 6 months later.
Hayes will provide the Blackhawks with the big physical presence they lack without taking away from the youthful exuberance that Shaw displayed. Hayes will be hard-pressed to find time on the top two lines, but has shown in his past call-up that he could be effective with Dave Bolland.
