Nearly 60 percent of the 2,411 people polled thought the around four million Muslims in Germany should have their religious practices "significantly curbed."

Far-right attitudes are found not only at the extremes of German society, but "to a worrying degree at the centre of society," the think tank said in its report.

I read about this yesterday. I will say this I admire her frankness about the matter. She didn't beat around the bush and got straight to the point. whether I agree with it...I dunno...in some aspects yes some no. I think any foreign culture has a right to be its own culture but do not try and force that culture on pre-existing culture. I really can't figure how to say what I really mean but that was my best attempt.

Even more so supraman; don't emigrate to a country if you can't 'hang' with their people. Only America is so tolerant...everyone else including the Brits expect you to be a certain way if you are going to become one of their citizens. Actually now that I say it, even America expects you to be a certain way if you want to live here and be a citizen. We allow many more freedoms, but we still expect certain things.

Being of mostly kraut heritage, and possibly wanting to move their some day, I have no problem with the Germans reminding their imigrants that they decided to move to Germany, not the other way around...ie Germany didn't try to move into Turkey.

There you said it better than I could. When you immigrate to a country you assimilate the their ways not the other way around. I think America too eagerly embraces other cultures and we lose part of our identities. To give you an example it honestly pisses me off we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I'll just say it it flat out offends me that we celebrate it. Then you add that some kids wore American flags on that day to school and were sent home. Sure the flags were to sorta send a message but still sent home for wearing your nation's flag...WTF

EDIT: I want to add this, I have no problem with someone from another culture celebrating their holidays and traditions but that's your own thing, keep it to yourself or find people of the similar traditions.

The problem with America is that it has no culture to begin with, but that's what makes America America.

However, I do agree that you adapt to the country, not vice-versa.

Agree somewhat.

Just let me know when you want to make Hiawatha your close, personal savior.

Really? The Hippie movement was American culture. Women's Liberation Movement was American culture. The concept of any individual being about to make something of himself in life - the sky being the limit - is American culture. Pop art was American culture. Rock'n roll, the blues, country music, soul, jazz, funk and disco was American culture. Television sitcoms is American culture. Space exploration for years was very much American culture - shared of course with the Soviets. Commercials was American culture. Cowboys was American culture. Wall Street was American culture. Mormonism is part of American culture. Those are just off the top of my head.

Dont forget hating the wings is american culture. Also add in our cuisine, sure it is influenced from food all over the world but what we've done with it is certainly American and culture. When people were coming over at Ellis island our country was a melting pot and we were a conglomerate of other cultures that over time evolved into distinct American culture.

I agree with her on the whole "adapt to our culture" thing. Trust me, i don't like the fact that when I came back home from St. Louis all of a sudden every sign in my home town was also written in spanish.

The only thing I found inflammatory is her not so direct references to their religion. To the point I am not sure what her intentioned meaning is. Is she saying they need to convert to christianity or at least abandon islam? Who knows, probably not, but some people might take it that way.

Or (doutfully) she was referring to the idea that her country will not bend their rules for that particular religious group
