Patrick Sharp scored a hat trick and Jonathan Toews sparked the Hawks comeback with a five point night to lead the Hawks to victory Friday afternoon over the Anaheim Ducks.
The Blackhawks trailed the Ducks 4-2 going into the third period, but Jonathan Toews took over the final frame with a dominating four point period leaving Blackhawk fans saying "Sidney who?"
Quennevilles line juggling finally proved to be effective when he placed Sharp with Toews and Stalberg to re-kindle the magic on the 1st line. Not only did the offense get back on track by pummeling the Ducks with 42 shots and forcing Carlyle to hook Hiller, but the power-play went 2-for-7. Both units potted a goal, Andrew Brunette fed Dave Bolland for a perfect pass and Jonathan Toews netted the game winner on the power-play as well.
Although the Blackhawks allowed five goals, the defense played well with Duncan Keith leading the way posting a multi-point night along with many great defensive plays and Brent Seabrook getting on the positive side of the score-sheet in his return with a plus-2.
Goaltending was not particularly strong with Crawford allowing five goals on 28 shots, but he stood tall in the third period allowing the Hawks to complete the comeback. I suppose all that matters is that he made the saves when it counted, however he has to dig deeper and find another level to his game if the Blackhawks want to contend.
CAPTAIN SERIOUS, GETS SERIOUS
Jonathan Toews exploded onto the scene with the Blackhawks trailing 4-2 showing the hockey world that he refuses to lose. A circus trip that looked to be full of failure can still turn into a respectable trip thanks to the captain.
His dominating performance coupled with the leadership shown by Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp could make this the best core of leaders in the entire NHL - not to mention the ongoing list of others in the locker room.
It's simple, these guys hate to lose and they did not allow this game to slip away like they did in Calgary and Edmonton. Reminiscent of 2009-10? I think so.
