The Wild gained the lead first but the Blackhawks depth chipped away to build a 5-2 win against Minnesota.
Early in the 1st period Devin Setoguchi picked up a rebound off Ray Emery to give the Wild the lead, but the Chicago rookies sparked another win with Andrew Shaw tying the game and Jimmy Hayes putting the Blackhawks ahead 2-1 in the 2nd period.
Viktor Stalberg and Dave Bolland completed the 2nd period with tallies of their own. Of the 3 goals scored in the middle frame, 2 of them were on the power-play.
The Wild started to crawl back into the game in the 3rd period with Brodziak netting their 2nd goal, but their impact halted from then on. Late in the final frame Dave Bolland put the game away with an empty net goal.
HES A CHECKING LINE CENTER
Or maybe he's a scoring threat? Maybe Quenneville has finally figured it out...
Dave Bolland scored 2 goals and 1 assist after earning another opportunity to play in a prominent offensive role on the team. He connected with Jimmy Hayes and Marian Hossa several times throughout the game, his offensive savvy worked well with some help on his wings.
Last game against Columbus was the 1st game Bolland was paired with Hossa this year along with playing a prominent role in the Blackhawks offense. Since his promotion he has had 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 2 games.
ROOKIE WATCH
Jimmy Hayes: 7 games, 3 goals, 1 assist, 4 points
Hayes has had an important impact on the Blackhawks line-up, perhaps a role they have not filled since Dustin Byfuglien departed the team after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in the summer of 2010. His skating ability has certainly caught up to his size and while his hands aren't exactly phone booth-worthy, they have shown more than Bryan Bickell's have given. He commands space and opens up ice for his linemates and perhaps has shown an ability to fit in a supporting role no matter who he plays with.
Andrew Shaw: 5 games, 2 goals, 0 assists, 2 points
His feisty attitude has been a shot in the arm for an otherwise dull line-up that seems to feed off the youthful energy that he brings. He's scored 2 very important goals to get the Blackhawks going again and shows the same spark that Adam Burish use to provide for the line-up.
