im with ya on that. it was just the drop 3rd strike that went to the wall where he could have gotten on but that kind of stuff really shouldn't bother people.

I just always cringe when I see this shit about big power hitters. What? You want him to hustle on a dropped third strike and pull a muscle or hurt his thumb diving in and miss time? If I'm Ventura my conversation is basically "Dude, I get it hombre. But just at least give the illusion you're hustling or whatever. You don't actually have to. Just run it out a bit. Continue to destroy worlds with your bat. We're cool"

at times it makes sense. like the Soriano trots when the ball didn't go out and he was sitting at 1b instead of 2nd. that's where I want to see hustle. it doesn't have to be extreme hustle like adam eaton getting walked and running like the ball is in play. like FT said, let Abreu mash, he will get his bases.

Its attitude and leadership as Robin stated. You lose a team if the rules are different for some

Don't be naive. The Red Sox won two WS in 5 years with different rules for Manny. The Yankees won a glut of championships with guys like Ruth Mantle Dimaggio with different rules for them. The Giants got to WS with different rules for Bonds. etc etc etc. Great players get different rules. There are a huge amount of examples in other sports as well.

Even in that Sori example...is that a lack of "hustle" or just Sori thinking it was a HR and trotting instead of "running" even at his slow speed like it was in play. Knucklehead =/= to hustle IMO. Dipshits like Eaton, Eckstein Barney, Fuld etc have to "hustle" because their value as a player is directly tied to maximizing the little thing like that. Abreu's value obviously isn't(and neither was Sori's to be honest). Their value is tied to hitting the snot out of the baseball. If they are doing that, **** it...jog shit out sometimes.

that's what was said. no one is advocating Jim Edmonds play. but don't be Castro taking plays off either

Nope. He is still a rookie in the major leagues. This was the way to handle it. No theatrics ala Billy Martin or Earl Weaver. Just tell him straight. The Dodgers have a pig problem with their Cuban star, Puig, who is a different character from Abreau. Managers do handle certain guys differently depending on their temperment. He (Robin) did things correctly, I believe.

LOL. Naive fool. Can't wait until Abreu pops a hamstring running out a grounder and this board loses their shit. Abreu could have army crawled to first base and I wouldn't have said shit. I'd be willing to bet Ventura's "talking" to Abreu was pretty much what my conversation was.

Really? Pull a hamstring running out a grounder? You run out everything. You play the game as it is supposed to be played not in a half assed way.Not doing it properly is an insult to your other teammates and the team itself. Every player makes a mistake on the field but not hustling is not acceptable. You do not have to play the game like Pete Rose did but to run out a dropped 3rd strike isn't asking a lot. Ask AJ if it made a difference.
