Would be nice to see the Cubs go after Josh Johnson and Ellsbury. Then hopefully Baez, Bryant, and Olt make themselves into the lineup and this team is definitely capable of being competitive during the end of the summer months.

shoot wouldn't surprise me if they used the free 25 mil to buy off the politics going on so they can get the stadium built.

They lost this year due to the politics. Seeing how they are losing new revenues with them trying to get assurance that the roof top owners will not sue by putting up signs.... pretty much laughable that they give a damn what the neighbors are thinking when it come to running their property and the screwed up city for letting the neighbors turn a profit on another business....that is called pirating and the city made it legal.

I want no part of Ellsbury. It's not the money, but the years he will demand is concerning and his best years are behind him. He does not have corner outfielder power, and he would block Almora. Why sign him when Almora might be up in a couple if years anyways.

If they are going to go 6 figures on anyone, go all in on Tanaka, extend Wood, and then fill out the rest of the team with scrubs and trade off assets like Shark and maybe Castro to beef up the pitching in the minors.

Peeps are thinking that Tanaka may cost 75 mil on a posting fee to get. I doubt the Cubs post more than 25 mil.

Interestingly, Cubs Den is reporting that the Cubs are expected to raise payroll 25-35 million over what it was at the start of last year. https://twitter.com/CubsDen/status/397016408418050048

Thats NOT going to happen. Clearly he misunderstood his source. Right now they have 58 mil tied up. With ARBS and raises another 15-20 mil. So that puts team at 75-80 mil. So when they spend 25-35 mil that will put them around 105-110 which they have been at for start of season last 2 yrs. If they were going to add 25-30 mil to 106 mil that would put Cubs in the 130 mil range and that would give Cubs 50-60 mil in FA. Already been said by MANY peopel no way Cubs spending that much money in FA. So yes they spending 25-30 mil but thats JUST to get them back to where they were at beginning of 2012 and 2013. Real question is where is that 25+ mil from National TV deals going. Your guess is just a good as my guess ( into Ricketts pockets)
