I'm not going to lie, I got a bit emotional when I learned that Adam Yauch passed away. One of my buddies who's a producer in Memphis texted me. One of my first music memories was my dad and I driving to the bank when I lived in Chicago back in '92 and 'Gratitude' came on from Check Your Head and I went nuts!

That album and Paul's Boutique changed my life. I've got both represses on vinyl plus some of their 7'' and 12''s. Their originality, passion for music and signature sound is going to stick with me forever. I'm just glad we got one more Beastie album before MCA passed away.

RIP, MCA.... rock the sure shot.

They also paved the way for Rap to be an acceptable form of music by the industry establishment for all creeds and colors of people. First to win a Grammy for rap, and had nothing but a lot of fun doing it.

RIP MCA

Yeah, their influence on popular music for nearly 30 years is unparalleled. They broke a lot of ground in hip-hop -- being white (affluent, middle-class Jewish guys, mind you), they were one of the first groups to lambaste their songs with sampling (something that's being shyed away from for the shitty auto-tune, ProTools drubbings we get now), they always kept their rhymes clean and positive, they did all their own instrumentals on every album and even did an all studio instrumental album back in '07 called The Mix-Up.

It's sad to think MCA was too sick to be with them when they were inducted into the Rock 'n Roll HoF last month.

Beastie Boys were before my time really, but I grew up on them because my sisters listened to them all the time.

One of my favorite groups ever...
