One of my instructors at karate just started swimming classes & said he wouldn't step foot into an ocean or lake.

Are you guys afraid to swim in either?

I swam in my grandpa's farm pond when I was younger and I was bitten on the foot by something, most likely a turtle. Haven't swam in anything other than a swimming pool since then.

Jaws fucked with a lot of people's minds!

Swimming in the ocean is fun as ****. Especially if you go snorkeling or scuba diving in clear water. I did both in Hawaii and Mexico and saw so much cool shit.

When I lived in Hawai'i, I swam in the ocean as often as I could. I also lived one block away from Lake Michigan when I lived in Milwaukee. I loved both, but of course, I'll take the beaches of Hawai'i any day. I went cliff diving once in this one spot that was roughly 30ft above the break, and that was fun too. Although I doubt I would do it again, just because there are better thrills to be had.

And BTW, I'm a piss-poor swimmer. I didn't see the deep end of a pool until I was 16.

The tide. The salt. Plus, I'm not so much in swimmer shape anymore. More like a bouy. I think fatter people tend to go to lakes, so I'm a better fit there.

I wouldn't say I'm scared to, but I'm certainly not a fan. My wife's family has a house on a lake up in the UP of Michigan and it's ok. I've visited family in Florida a couple times and I wasn't very fond of the Ocean water (well, it was the Gulf actually). A combination of debris in the water, the water being really warm and the nastiness of the salt turned me off quite a bit.

i dont mind either....i guess im a little more scared of a lake maybe because you never go out in the ocean to where the bottom is more than 10 feet deep unlike in a lake..idk

but i dont mind swimming in a lake or anything

Ive swam in both lakes and the ocean. I perfer a swimming pool if Im going to swim. I detest the saltwater as it drys out your skin. Plus, I perfer to remain on the top of the food chain, and we aint on top in the ocean. Respect Mother Nature or she will kill you.

Lakes, no problem. Ocean, I do it but it makes me a little nervous sometimes. Lots of sharks around here.

I grew up swimming in a lake at a campground every summer, so they don't bother me. I've never even seen an ocean much less swam in one, but I'd like to someday.

I remember hearing/reading a quote that was about respecting the ocean. It was something like "It's bigger than you, it's stronger than you, and it wants to kill you."
