Ex-Bear Alex Brown isn't welcome at Halas Hall
By Brad Biggs
When the Bears released Alex Brown on April 1 they severed ties for good.
When the veteran defensive end, who still maintains a home in the North suburbs, showed up at Halas Hall earlier today, he was told to be on his way and shown the door.
That's what Brown said on his Twitter account.
"To my surprise I was escorted out if [sic] the building," Brown tweeted. "I guess I understand it somewhat but damn didn't think I would get kicked out! Who Dat!!"
Brown still has a photo of himself on the practice fields of the Bears training camp facility in Bourbonnais on his Twitter account. Perhaps that will be changing. Soon.
An eight-year veteran with the Bears, Brown was released because the team did not want to pay him $5 million this season. At the time, the team floated the idea that younger players like Jarron Gilbert and Henry Melton would benefit from more playing time, but that might not hold true. Mark Anderson has taken over the spot Brown held as a starter for most of the eight seasons.
In the meantime, he signed a two-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, who have already wrapped up their offseason program. The Bears conclude their offseason program on Thursday and Brown wanted to see some familiar faces in the organization.
Brown did pick up some good news on Monday, if there can be positive news when a friend is released. Bobby McCray, a fellow Florida Gator, was released by the Saints. McCray started at left end last season in New Orleans and his departure virtually ensures Brown will be the starter there.
He'll have to call his friends at Halas Hall or meet them somewhere else to talk about the news.
