Yahoo Sports reported that Selig said Wrigley Field would be appealing for an All-Star game in 2014.

Pretty exciting news to me, I know I would go. Homerun Derby would be fun to watch. Anyone can hit the rooftops?

If you had to choose between the two.. Would you rather go to the Derby or All Star game?

Those people in the rooftop seats would be getting balls like crazy.

Didn't Sosa hit one like 490 feet in game 1 against the Marlins in 2003... and it landed on top of the scoreboard? I remember Glenallen Hill hit the front of an apartment building with a bounce, and it was called something like 480 feet.

To get to the rooftops, you're talking 550 minimum. Besides, wasn't there a HR derby when Wrigley hosted the AS game in 90?

I don't think anyone would hit a rooftop.

Also HRD over ASG.

That was a really fun homerun, but people really need to get the idea that Wrigley is this incredibly homerun friendly ballpark out of their mind. Wrigley isn't even the most homerun friendly park in the city.

Depends... what direction is the wind blowing?

Even with the wind blowing out, there are plenty of parks that are more homerun friendly (Coors, Arlington, Minute Maid and Cell come to mind pretty quickly).

That'd be great. I'd definitely go to the Home Run Derby at Wrigley.

True enough. That's Wrigley's dynamics though. If the wind is blowing in, it's usually going to be a good day for the pitchers. If it's blowing out, OFs better be ready to run... and those in the bleachers better be watching out.

I love that Wrigley is a park that can change from being a very pitcher friendly park to a hitter friendly park on a given day. I just think that Wrigley's view as an extreme homerun park is more based on reputation and earlier days when ballparks where generally bigger. Wrigley's dimensions are average by ballparks today and the wind blows in at least as much if not more than it blows out.

Wrigley probably isn't getting the AS game, because it is the AL's turn in even numbered years & IIRC they wanted the triangle building to be completed, which last I heard won't be completed on time.

They changed that for the new Yankee Stadium I believe. They should put next year's AS game in Fenway, since it'll be 100 in 2012.

Coors adjusted things with the humidor.

I don't hear of 23-22 games in other parks including the Cell. Wrigley wind blowing out arguably is the easiet park to tater in because of the power alleys. I think they are still the shortest in baseball.
