I've been watching this version of the show for years now and still have yet to see a single American even attempt Stage 4. So is this show a scam or what?

Wouldn't the bigger scam be to have one person complete the course each show?

That would be cheesy but I mean ****, after 5 or 6 years, I'd at least like to see a single fucking person attempt the final obstacle. Are American athletes that shitty that not a single person can do it?

There has only been 3 people ever complete the entire course.

Yes?

It's actually a pretty difficult course for anyone. Especially shocking when that one gymnast girl finished it. Or whatever part of it she finished if not the whole thing.

Kacy Catanzaro didn't finish. She completed the local stages, and failed in the first stage of the nationals.

Anyways, I hope they don't nerf the event. I think the American one is already nerfed compared to Sasuke(the Japanese one it mimics).

Ah is that how it works? I don't watch the show so I really have no idea. Still, completing the course she did was still impressive.

Yes it was very impressive given that she is only 5 feet tall. But basically completing the course is impossible for anyone (man or woman) that is that short.

No I get that part. But my complaint is not that nobody is winning but that nobody is even attempting the final obstacle. There have been quite a few folks from the Japan version that have at least attempted the finals.

A ton of these guys basically train for this event full-time (they make their living from training other wannabees). Not that I can do better (not even close) but I would expect these full-timers to do better than what I saw this year.

So the Japanese version has been going for 30 years and they've only had 3 people finish. And only how many people reach the finals?

It doesn't seem to be a scam. It seems to be a really really hard course that only the best of the best can even get a chance to attempt

Well 32 people have attempted Stage 4 (final stage). It's basically nearly impossible to beat. But that's basically 1 person on average per season. The USA version has had 0 people attempt Stage 4 and only 1 competitor has come even close to beating Stage 3.

So I'm sure you can understand my skepticism about this USA version.

Not sure I understand any logical path that leads that to being a scam... just means they're not as well trained.

Here would be a better way to find out the path. How many people in the first 5 years of the Japanese efforts reached the finals? Was it as difficult then and just after some of those guys dreamed of beating it for years became the winners. I recall watching the show there was a core few guys who were considered the experts who were near or had beaten it trying year after year.

No, it's pretty close to how the original Japanese show worked (which used to get aired here on G4).

The vast majority of seasons no one finishes. I'd have to look, but it took a long time for anyone to beat stage 4 on the original show and only like 4 guys have ever done it.

So, nope not a scam, just a really fucking difficult course.

Well the logical path is that its kind of a novelty show. Viewers will tend to watch until they see the first person reach the top of Stage 4. Once there is a winner, the novelty may wear off. Reminds me a bit of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Ratings were fantastic until there was a winner and then slowly started dying off.

And RE: 2nd question, there was a winner of Sasuke in the 4th season.

I was worried when I heard that the US was going to do a version of it. I knew that Americans wouldnt have the patience to wait for someone to be good enough to beat it. They love to have a winner. Fortunately, they did not go the easy route and kept it so only someone very special/lucky/at-the-top-of-their-game could reach the top.
