And the last 3 years...on an offensively challenged MINN team -

244gms - 65g - 92a - 157pts

(avg-21g-31a-52pts)

Not even to mention his intagibles...leadership, compete level

Doesnt play the PK...but plays the PP. Very smart player, very good puck support/ice awareness

Not bad at all. Andrew can still pot a few goals and should help the second unit pp.

Okay we signed a couple older players. Vet experience done

we signed a couple gritty players for the 4th line.....hole filled

Not a bad day for Scotty

Team still has a couple holes which I don't think free agency will fill. But otherwise Scotty so far has had a solid off season.

Keep it up!!

It's going to be another interesting start for the Hawks and for us fans. More new faces to adjust around. as long as the core comes in healthy and rested and focused though everything will be tasty.

Uptown baby!
Yeah, I am envisioning a scenario where his simply heinous lack of speed and skating skill has Q play him down to lower lines. Has to be one of the slowest Top 6 forwards you will ever set eyes on. That shit worked out okay back in his days with that trapping MIN team but I can't see how it works well on a top line in Chicago. It's gonna break my heart to see his slower than slow ass on a line with Hossa. Brunette for sure gets his points because mercifully he knows how to plant his ass around the net (that's to be lauded and I give him his due props) and that's because he's too fucking slow to do anything else like forecheck or be especially defensively sound. He's going to need a good two-way Centre on that 2nd line to offset his liabilties. . .oh wait, Hawks haven't figured out the 2C hole yet. Sorry, I just don't see how Brunette slots in with the talent the Hawks have for the top lines. Bottom lines sure except he would suck on the Hawks checking line but then that leaves the 4th and he's better than 4th line material---I honestly feel he's a true conundrum right now and I am not seeing him as the right fit. I for sure hope all of you who are chubbying over the signing are the ones who are decidedly right and that I am flat-out wrong though.

The Hawks PP could very well land in the top 3 in the league with his addition.

$2 million is an amazing price for his talent in return. This is one of the best signings of the day.

He's the top of 2nd tier scoring the Hawks lacked last season. Great signing.

I honestly think this is one of the best signings of day 1-- and either no one wants to talk about it, or everyone is in agreeance.

I think it's a good signing also. I think Carcillo took the attention factor that's why not many re talking about Brunette yet.

I think the only downside to Brunette is def the non speed factor and the age factor. Also he has never been known for the defensive end of the game.

Plus sides are of course with age comes experience and some vet leadership which a team can never have enough of. We need it more now having Carcillo and Mayers in the lineup. Of course he will probably help that second powerplay unit as he does like the dirty areas around the net. Good passing abilities and he is a work horse team guy. And of course he just flat out adds depth which every team needs. And adds depth to the left side which we are the weakest.

I just wonder where he gets slotted esp if Frolik does get signed. I like that he can probably slide 3rd to 2nd line and we all know Q likes to mix em up. Think Brunette replaces that side of Brouwer which was a plus.

It is a good signing. Think it was def unexpected but it makes sense.

Brunettes lack of speed is made to be a bigger deal than it is. He never was the quickest guy, but he has skills and vision and works well around the net. If he mans the top two lines he will have a good year. Good signing overall. Hopefully he will get a Cup to crown his long and underrated career.

I was always a fan of his when he played for Minnesota, he was never the stand out scorer but he use his knowledge to get to the net and pop in the clutch goals. He is a great veteran presence to have around these young guys.

I was surprised to see his production when I looked him up for an old guy. 18 goals last year on a bad team. If he can pot 15-20 goals and put up 40 points, he is one hell of a pickup for 2mil.

Like others have said we park him up fromont the PP he will bang the pucks into the twine. 8 of his 18 goals came off the PP last year.

Hawks were missing a guy who could plant himself in front last year for sure.

I agree with Rosh, speed isn't a factor IMO. Lang was never fast either but he had great positioning and worked out just fine in Chicago.

Lang's line would score to only be scored upon next shift.

Well, with Hossa on his line, (and possibly Bolland) I have a hard time believing they'll get scored on every other shift.

Agreed... after all, the puck belongs to Hossa.

I'm hoping any concerns about speed are masked by good hockey sense, smart play, and linemates (if he plays on 2nd line for example) who can hold the puck while he gets into position. LOVE that he will go to the net and KNOWS how to play there... knocking in pucks and cleaning up rebounds. I've been praying the Hawks would get that presence. It will pay dividends on the PP.

He was "fast enough" to play with Sakic.

This guy is going to be great in the locker room as well. Just as when Hossa and Kopecky came...they brought a great deal of puck pursuit to the Hawks - especially in back pressure. Both of them were really good at that, and it rubbed off on the team.

I expect a guy like Brunette to bring a good net/board presence to the team, as well as very good in his puck support in the offensive zone. Very smart player and knows were to go.

Its more about puck movement and being in the right spot. Brett Hull would never win a fastest skater competition...guaranteed.

Some Brunette quotes...

After the Wild beat the Stars on the final day of the NHL season to let the Blackhawks sneak into the playoffs, former Minnesota forward Andrew Brunette sat in the dressing room imagining the reaction of his former coach.

"I have been around Joel (Quenneville) long enough that I could envision him at home that night fist-pumping, red-faced and probably having a good belly laugh," Brunette recalled Tuesday on the phone. "I'm sure he got a pretty good cackle out of that."

"I'm used to Joel," Brunette said. "I know what he expects. He's an honest coach and you have a lot of respect for him because of that honesty. I know he's going to do certain things. It makes it a lot easier on the mind."

That background showed when Brunette chuckled when answering a question about adjusting to Quenneville's propensity to shuffle line combinations. Brunette was juggled enough in Colorado before settling in on a line with Joe Sakic that nothing next season will surprise him.

"I don't know if you ever get used to it, but you learn to expect a tweak here and there and just play the game," said Brunette.

"I have deceptive speed," he quipped. "I am actually slower than I look."

"You get guys who have been through the trenches and don't have that many opportunities left to win the Cup, you bring a little stability, a little hunger back," Brunette said.

His best quote was his "deceptive speed"
