My twin bro's gf has went there to visit her sister when she married an Australian dude. She said the guys are a bunch of drunken fun wirey jock types and the girls are mostly the cool tomboy toned slut variety. Kinda like English/Irish people but buffer and more chill. Weather is awesome.

Did you know that Australia is the sluttiest first world country? Plus Crocodile Dunde 1 & 2 were awesome. Go if you can.

Wife went last year to visit her best friend who's Aussie. They had a blast. Toured the wine region above Sydney. Did the swim thing, snorkel, scuba. Drank a bunch. I would go, if she would let me.. hmmm.

We went to the Cairns & Port Douglas areas in 2007. The GBR was the main reason we went and we spent two days snorkeling / diving the reef. Awesome! We spent 7 days in that area and loved it.

Ask away if that is the area you are considering.

Never been there but did meet a guy on a golf forum from Aus. He ended up coming here to visit.

Aussies are the freindliest people in the world. If you visit them expect they will insist you stay in their house. It's all about fun and adventure. They love to travel. It's 6 weeks of vacation and off to another part of the world and forget the job. When they visit they expect Americans to take the same amount of vacation and spend all their time showing them around. They expect to stay at your house. Our guy and his familiy never made reservations. They just came here and he expected to stay with all the people he met on the internet. I thought they were staying 2 nights and it turned out they wanted to stay 2 weeks. I told them they had to go somewhere else. They dont make a lot of money and money and things really dont matter much to them. Again it's all about fun

I've always wanted to go to Australia, but I haven't figured out a way to sneak napalm on the plane...

I go to Aus once every year or two for work. I get a little bit of time off to go surfing and hit up Margaret River and the like, but I am usually on the West coast. Always a very good time. Little known fact, Australia has overtaken the US in obesity rates. Surprising.

As far as the huntsman spiders. They scare the crap out of you but are harmless. They actually have commercials there saying to make sure to roll up your car windows at night because they crawl in and then run across your dashboard while you are driving and cause accidents. Enough to warrant a commercial! LOL! Im more worried about the redbacks and various poisonous snakes. But then I spend most of my time in the bush while I am there.

I'm generally not afraid of spiders. I'll even live and let live, as long as the wife doesn't see them.

But I guarantee you if I saw one of those Aussie bastards cross the dash, I wouldn't even give myself a split second to consider how harmless they are. No siree. I would most definately be ing'ing something...crashing, bailing, flailing, smashing, shitting...

They definitely scare the crap out of you when you first see them. My buddy is terrified of spiders and saw one in the kitchen in the Solomon islands. He grabbed a can of bug killer. Emptied the contents. Nothing. Still screaming he threw the empty can at it. It knocked off a leg or two. I had never seen one so I went in for a closer look. I dont mind spiders unless they are crawling on me. I thought it was pretty fascinating. Certainly the biggest I have seen, including tarantulas in Arizona. I saw a funnel web spider in Oz as well while in the outback. Cool to say I have seen one, but certainly wouldnt want to see any more.

I've been and would love to go back... maybe move there.

Spent about 5 days each in Sydney, Hamilton Island and Port Douglas. All on east coast. Wonderful trip, it was the beginning of winter there but the weather was still nice. A bit cool at night in Sydney but being a lifelong Chicagoan it was nothing.

Sydney is an awesome city, so many beautiful beaches, lots of inlets, rivers and bays just tons of water everywhere. And Aussies are super friendly, very laid-back and kind.

Port Douglas is about an hour north of Cairns, near the rainforest and a 45min boat ride to the Great Barrier Reef. The snorkeling is unbelievable, mind-blowing... highly recommended.

There are definitely some big spiders there, saw 1 in the rain forest called a golden orb... the legs were much longer than my fingers, thing was massive!

Went to the Australian Open in 2003, and watched Agassi run around in sweltering heat to win his last title there.

There are a hell of a lot of flies at that time of year. I mean a lot.

Very friendly people, lots to do, but I must admit, the aussie accent really did grate on me at times. I am biased though because I met a lot of annoying aussie travelers while living in SE Asia.

Their accent grates on you? Like the accent made them hard to understand? That I get... but otherwise idk.... Aussie accents always seemed kinda cool.

All the accents originating in that U.K. family sound cool to me.

No, not hard to understand. Like I said, I was unfortunate to meet several aussie travelers while living and working in SE Asia who were not the best examples for their country. Visiting Australia changed that for me, but it still remains one of my least favourite accents.

The flies though, man. When I returned to Taiwan after my visit, everyone thought I had the pox.

Aussies are like Germans - great at home, pains in the arse on the road. Edinburgh is full of them and all they talk about is how great Australia is.

Lol, there is a certain arrogance to some German travelers, that isn't so evident while visitng Germany.

The worst example of German tourists for me was in Boracay. Fat, 60 something guys, over-tanned and with 14 year old Filipino girls on their arms. Very creepy.
