Was wondering if anyone else on here has Verizon Wireless and if so are you finding any problems with them. I just happened to look at the bill online tonight and found it to be almost 3 times what it normally is. My mom and I share a plan and neither of us uses our phones much. We never go anywhere near our allotted minutes. I had my mom go over the bill and we found a data charge for 951 minutes and we were charged $108 dollars for that one item at around midnight when I would never be on my phone. My mom called and argued with them for over an hour. She wanted the source of that charge and they said they didn't know where it came from and couldn't tell her. She said you have to be able to find out where it originated and they said they can't. She told them she wasn't paying it and all they had to do was look at our past bills and see we never use our minutes and have never had any previous problems. The guy agreed and said he would try to get it credited. When he came back he said if we changed plans, they would credit the full amount, but if we didn't they would only credit 75 percent. My mom told the guy that was blackmail and a shoddy way of doing business. We have been loyal customers since 1996. He went and talked to his supervisor and came back and said those were our only options. She said how do I know that Verizon themselves didn't generate that charge so that they could create the situation where we would have to change plans. The guy said they would never do that. Then my mom replied,"Really, cause you aren't above blackmail so who knows what levels you would sink to.".

So anyone else have horror stories?

You guys got hosed. You have to call someone and file a complaint. They have no right to do that.

I had Verizon for many years going back to about the same time you started. I had some issues with my son going over the plan limit for texts, Verizon was'nt supposed to allow any overage fees because they were supposed to stop any texts that went over his allotted minutes in the plan. On that occasion they were charging me almost 200 dollars extra because of that, I raised hell and they forgave the entire amount. It did happen more than once and they let me win the times that it did happen. I've since moved on to Sprint

951 minutes is almost 16 hours. My phone battery would not last that long if I was really using their air waves. I go for days at a time without even picking up my phone so it isn't from anything I did. I have been online reading a bunch of complaints about them, but I'm sure you could find complaints about all companies.

I have Verizon. Data charges come in bytes not minutes so if they verbally told you that then they were not being honest or clear. Have you logged in to your online account to see exactly what that charge was? I would keep calling till you get what you want. Also, check your phones to see if you have any apps that might 'log on' and transfer data at that rate and duration.

I have verizon. They never did me wrong. One time EVGA transferred me to their support in Canada and for whatever reason I got charged for it. I called verizon and talked to them about it. They offered to cut the charge in half. Which I gladly accepted since frankly it wasn't their fault and they had every right to tell me to pay it and STFU

They did a study a while back (too lazy to look for it) and apparently most people aren't happy with their cell phone companies, regardless of who they have.

Verizon has almost always voided charges like that, that are inexplicable, and out of the norm. Then again, I've been a customer of theirs for 15+ years, I believe, so they work with us whenever we have complaints.

Working on the back-end of thing for the cellphone business as part of a contracting company, you'd be amazed at how disjointed the companies themselves are. For both AT&T and Sprint, the good and bad in their service is a regional and local thing--not nationwide. Comcast is similar for Cable/internet. Each region is very different and bri, your experience with what I could guess as the Chicago market will be vastly different than mine in, say the PacNW.

The backplane (which I work with) for the 4G and connectivity is relatively the same. Signal my vary depending on location and often the big-3 cell companies may not have connectivity in an area that a smaller company does. What it boils down to is what kind of deal the cell company can rope you into a 2 year contract with. Once you're roped in, they don't really want to deal with you and once your contract is up, they *may* keep you on the same plan if they feel magnanimous, but really, they'll try to milk you for all they can. Your best bet at that point is trying to find another carrier and take your number with, since they'll cut you a deal to get your business.

So, just get some freinds and family to meet you in locations where your phone will be and see what carrier has what connectivity, then start the bidding wars and be prepared after 2 years to walk away to another company and take your number with you.
