I got another virus this morning on my computer before I left for work. It was the same kind that I had before where a pop up came up saying I had a blaster worm or something, but in reality that part is fake. It is a virus that tries to make you buy anti-virus protection software. I downloaded Malwarebytes and let it run a scan while I was at work and cleared it out when I got home. It appears to be working OK now, but I wanted to warn everybody. I am not sure where I got it, but I was only on IHN and Yahoo this morning. Last time it did major damage to my computer and I don't want anyone else to experience that.

Bri just texted me and told me that she got the virus again. So it is definitely on IHN.

Not necessarily so, there are all kinds of ways via backdoor for viruses to attack!

Don't people use AV software? I've used the free ones for years and never had a virus and those that have gone through have all been caught. Currently using MS Security Essentials, nice and easy on the resources.

I had AV software and still got it. I used Malwarbytes to get rid of it but got it again. I repeated and it happened again. So my uncle told me to restore my computer to a few days ago. I did that and downloaded another AV software (Avast) in addition to Windows Defender and Malwarbytes. I am hoping this will take care of it. I do not go on porn sites or anything like that which I have heard.are prone to viruses. The last time I had it I got it from Swap A Paperback and they put up a notice because it affected many people and tried to help them resolve the problem. Before it was over my computer ended up crashing and I spent weeks trying to resuscitate it.

assholes.

I dont mean to be an ass, but yeah like Tony said I doubt it came from here.

Bri i dont mean to sound like a total dick but the type of virus you are describing generally preys on the "inexperienced" internet users that click anything that tells them to.

These types of things could have been acquired months or even years ago, and sat dormant, its a way for them to cover their tracks so you don't know exactly where you got it.

One thing I am sure of, is this thing found its way on your system by a direct action you took.

Yeah, long gone are they days of viruses being a show of coding prowess with a funny animation and sound. Today they are much more insidious little programs paid for by criminals. They stay out of sight and either gather information, such as keystrokes to get credit card numbers etc. or making your computer a bot in extensive botnetworks that carry out attacks on different targets. Or then they are just downright malicious and destroy your computer after it has spread to enough machines.

Best advice is to use a proper current browser like Firefox or Chrome and stay away from IExplorer, especially the older versions. Don't click on pop-ups, close them. If webpages are running harmful code the good browsers will tell you about them. Don't open any e-mail attachments unless you can be 100% sure that they are legit. Banks never send emails asking for banknumbers or passwords.

I have Symantec End Point Protection, I DL a file with a virus it quarantines it immediately
