As has been said, Jaylon Smith is a straight stud. One of the top 5-7 players in this draft, IMO. But I think the perfect fit for this defense would be Reggie Ragland out of Alabama. He's a lot like Donte Hightower, who wasn't highly regarded by a lot of teams because he looked like a guy you'd have to take off the field on passing downs. But Ragland looks to be more athletic to me and I think he can be decent against the pass, especially in zone coverage. He can also rush the passer from the edge. Thumper who will make plays at or behind the line of scrimmage.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm not sure Smith is big enough to be inside in a 3-4 in the NFL and I think his ideal position in the NFL would be a WLB in a 4-3. But like everyone has said, he is a freaky athlete who could probably play multiple positions in the NFL the way he has at ND.

Scooby Wright just so I can call our defense the mystery squad

He will not be able to stay healthy at the next much like he struggles at it already. Size will always be his Achilles despite being a very good football player.

His Frame is plenty big enough and I'll put $ down now he shows up at the combine no less then 245. Both Lewis and Willis bulked up once they got in the NFL.

He has the Frame Length Height and speed to transcend any scheme at multiple LB positions.

Probably. He really hasn't played ILB long term at ND in his 3 years. Just my opinion but I think he ends up outside in the NFL.

Drawing comparisons to Patrick Willis. I think he can play inside in a 3-4. I believe he did that at ND a couple years ago (think they were 3-4 and went to 4-3 last year). There are definitely smaller guys all over the league playing inside.

They were a 4-3 his freshman year and he played OLB and they made the switch to 3-4 the past two seasons where he hasn't been an every down ILB. He was playing as a freshman at about 205-210. He has added weight every year but unlike others, i don't think his frame is that thick. He pursues with his speed but I am not sure how he'd do taking on a 315+ NFL guard. It'll be interesting where he winds up.
