Are we sold on Braxton Jones?

Is Braxton Jones the Bears long term solution at LT?

I just did drugs and an edible so I could take more drugs so my eyes can't follow as fast as that's cut but what I did catch was that LT would be in competition with Jones.
Based on what I saw I wouldn't say that was a must have 1st round pick when you add a little more NFL difficulty setting.
But it's way too early to be putting that much effort into picking players for the draft (unless you like watching college). I'd rather wait for post season projections and then look at highlights.

The only thing I don't like about a 1st round WR is how much they'll cost in 4-5 years. Is Poles willing to pay for it like no Bears have before?

Problem with FAs at OT and C is if they have talent and available they're probably old and if they're old and talented they're probably expensive for what they have left. That's not ruling it out but it's but IMO it doesn't have a high odds of being there or a bang for the buck move. If it's there it could be a good stop gap move and maybe teach Jones enough to push him into being great.
Try not to look at highlights when getting excited about a potential draft pick. Try to find a video that shows a complete game against the best team that they played. This can show the good, the bad and the ugly of his play.

One example of this was when I was watching, many years ago, a video on Aaron Donald in college. After watching a few minutes of the video, I thought that I had gotten a highlight video of him. Nope, he was just making an impact on almost every single play. Those are the videos to watch.

Define old. If you can get a player with a solid track record in his late twenties with good health history, gotta do it.

I like every play for the team cuts as long as they give my eyes time to pick the player. I don't put too much faith in college play unless it's showing pure domination level talent.
The one I replied to showed him getting pushed. Unless I know it's against a top rusher I don't want to see that. I want to see standing ground or complete control of the defender to get me excited about 1st round oline. If they're getting pushed in college those are the defenders that they're going to be against in the NFL.

Expected last contract old, possibly 2nd to last because of who they are they'll float around. The contract the drafting team doesn't want to pay for because the player is on the downhill side and they have a replacement.
Most teams don't get rid of good oline unless there's a reason. Most everyone puts a lot more value on protecting the QB than the Bears.

'Greg Gabriel believes Braxton will be growing and developing into a blue chip player at LT. He's got the smarts, the character, the feet movement, but needs to keep on learning and getting stronger in his legs. Shows a positive progression so far. Get some more nasty Braxton and the fans will crown you.

I mean it's not really often you're going to find some premier OL in FA ever for these reasons. the notion that Poles is a total failure because he didn't buy a shiny offensive lineman off the shelf is pretty silly in my opinion, because they really don't exist. I think that's something you can only really build through the draft. if a team keeps current with their players and hits on their picks more than not, they can draft new players to replace experienced players that are going to command a lot of money. that's like perfect world scenarios though, I don't know how often it happens. I just remember the Bears getting Orlando Pace about 10 years after his shelf life expired years ago. that's the only way you'll get a HOF caliber lineman I think.

I'm just rambling now. I ran out of threads with new posts. :(

I have not done some big study on him. I also didn't give you just one play. I had a video of one complete game. I did see good technique with his pass protection. What I did not see was the athleticism to block outside. Seeing that the Bears are running an outside blocking scheme, it should be an important part of his game.

That is why I said that he should be a good pro in the proper type of offense.

One thing I had heard from him was that he had previously played center. Now, as a center with excellent pass pro and having a much smaller area to block (no pulling, please), he would be an intriguing player to take that spot over.

I will have to see more games from him. Maybe he was sick as a dog or was injured that game and that made him look much slower.

I did see that people were saying how athletic he was. I just did not see it in THAT game.
I hear ya. I’m just a guy watching games, but I’d assume that was just a bad game for him. The games I’ve seen he’s had no problems pulling to the edge or climbing to the second level.

I head he played C in high school. But man, if he can stick at LT despite his length and have the career Rashawn Slater has had, home run pick.

I think at the very worst he’s a 10 year G with All-Pro potential.

Heading into the Season, I'm pretty sure no one had Jones winning the LT job. I personally thought that it could be one of Jenkins, Borom or Rieff.

I have been surprised that Jones won the job and has at least not been a totally bum.

The other critical positions may force us to take a leap of faith, even with all the cap space and draft picks, Jones performance has been acceptable. The key is that this staff seems to be blind to the draft status, vet status, or salary, at least for this year, and they play the guy that earned the spot.

Bottom line, I think Jones has "earned" the shot at LT but is by no means, the presumptive starter for next year.

Jones has earned the right to compete next year but he needs to improve his strength while maintaining his agility. I don’t think it would be wise of the Bears to go all in on him at this time. Certainly has potential, but not their yet.
