At face value, I give him a D+

Considering the market and what other teams did (or more specifically didn't do), I give him a very generous C, leaning more towards a C-

I think a C+, just because he may not have over paid. If Gaustad really got a 1st, I dont even want to know what was asking price for Roy. He addressed a need on the team, but unfortunately, the Sharks, Canucks, Preds, and wings (before deadline day) got what they needed, if not more to make them more favorites.

The rhetoric spun all season pisses me off most. How many times did we hear "cap flexibility for the deadline?"

Now, since Stan added 3 mil in aav when you had something like 22 available you can choose two kind of fails to take a pick from: Either he failed making a big addition or he failed to see how the deadline would go in terms of buyers and sellers (which is shocking considering how it's been the past few years--I mean, really?).

Please just come out and say the team is eating almost 9 mil in horseshit contracts which played a huge role in the financial flexibility of the team.

Tell me again why did they traded Campbell? Hell, if I knew that Rocky was going to pocket the 4 mil, I wouldn't have been in favor of the trade. There is no way in hell that the Hawks should end the seaon 4 mil under the cap. Stan = failure

Why in the world would you miss an overpaid and overrated guy in Campbell...he couldn't play defense....He would not be the "savior".....We are gonna turn it around I know we are...Coach Q will get these guys back to playing good...and without a healthy Toews you can't expect us to be very good just saying....

Learn how to read. No one said he was the savior.

Now go back to sipping the kool aid.

Even though Campbell was not good defensively (I agree wholeheartedly the difference defensively between he and Leddy certainly isn't 6 million worth), his decision making with the puck is quicker than the speed of light compared to Leddy's. In that regard, the defense would actually be better with Campbell than Leddy. But positionally, defensive IQ...yeah, not much difference between the two.

Campbell played well defensively last year and is playing #1 d-man minutes in Florida this year with terrific results.

Almost everyone wanted his contract off the books but with the valid assumption that he'd be replaced by someone with a more manageable contract.

With the deadline passed, it's safe to say that the Hawks didn't replace him and thus let the new found cap space go to waste while the team's defensive play remains the sorest of sore spots this season.

In short, he had to go but for the Hawks to not replace him turns the benefit of trading him into a serious negative this year heading into the playoffs.

Essentially, the Hawks traded:

Brian Campbell + 2nd round pick + 3rd round pick

for

Johnny Oduya and Rostislav Olesz

Somewhere in this range...

It wasn't just for this year...you gotta think to the future too
Cap space is a huge thing to have

Cap space? What good does cap space do if you are not going to use it? Why should I have confidence that this will benefit them moving forward? And why should I think that Bowman can get the job done? The Hawks are in the bottom half of the league in payroll right now. WTF is that?? The reason so much of us were happy with the Campbell trade was that his salary could be used in better ways. A common thought was that the Hawks wouldn’t be major players in last summer’s free agency when so many players were overpriced and instead they would be active at the trade deadline. But they didn’t do shit!! Piss on all your Hawks TV and other gimmicky shit. I have no acceptance of a cheap-ass team.

Like I said earlier, I’d rather they kept the overpriced Campbell instead of trading him for basically nothing. Olesz plus the 4 mil in unspent cap space is BRIAN CAMPBELL. BC is not the savior but there is no denying that the Hawks would be a better team if he was on the blueline.

Note- Tbo my rant is not directed at you. I'm just frustrated with the Hawks right now. I just hope the Hawks don't squeak into the playoffs and play Vancouver again. I hate those gutless pukes!

I didn't want Campbell gone, but figured it had to happen when it happened. But how we have all this cap space confuses me, was there a way we could have fit him in this year?

Oduya The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired defenseman Johnny Oduya (oh-DOO-yah) from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a second-round selection and a third-round selection in the 2013 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Oduya, 30, has tallied two goals, 11 assists and 33 penalty minutes in 63 contests with Winnipeg this season, and ranks second on the club with 98 blocked shots. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has registered 109 points (22G, 87A), 222 penalty minutes and a +27 plus/minus rating in 445 career regular-season tilts with the New Jersey Devils (2006-2010), Atlanta Thrashers (2010-11) and Jets (20111-12), and two assists and 14 penalty minutes in 18 career Stanley Cup Playoffs contests.

Originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Oduya signed with the Devils as a free agent in 2006, and was later traded to Atlanta as part of the transaction that sent Ilya Kovalchuk to New Jersey. He represented Sweden at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

He's in the future!
