As many of you know, Artis Gilmore was inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Just today at the NBA Legends Brunch he received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

With that being said, does anyone believe that he deserves to be in the rafters of the UC? He put in some time for th Bulls & was a great contributor for the franchise during his time in a Bulls jersey.

Do you think the #53 should be retired for the Bulls? I wouldn't mind.

That's a good question. He had multiple all-star selections for the Bulls, so I could see them retiring his #53. Do I think they will though? Ehh more on the no side.

I think the Bulls should retire Dennis Rodmans number 91 first.

23 33 and 91 fit together on the court and will fit just as nicely hanging up for eternity at the UC.

Not saying this as a shot against Gilmore but I think you have to save retiring the numbers for the very elite. I'm assuming Derrick Rose will be up there one day.

Rodman was elite at rebounding and defense.
He was the top of the league at his roll.
Not to mention he put us over the top for 3 straight championships.

I wouldn't have any problems retiring Gilmore's number. Man was a beast.

But his 3 seasons here had a profound impact which was a huge part of puting up 3 of the 6 banners hanging up at the UC.
That's half.

I know, and I actually started a thread saying he should have his number retired. But im just not sure he was here long enough, even though he did have an amazing impact.

Till the Bulls don´t retire Van Lier´s #2, there shouldn´t be a conversation about any other former Bull! Just my opinion!

Yes...

Gilmore is the 4th best Bull ever maybe? Went to 4 allstar games in his 6 years as a Bull. Once an all league defender. Was great on both sides of the court. Unfortunately, he was a Bull between the Sloan/Van Lier/Love years and the Jordan years. Best big man and best PF/C the Bulls have ever had.

If I am not mistaken...the only Bull to average a double/double for his career with the team. 20pts and 11.5 rebs a game as a Bull.

He wasn't, it would be an insult to retire his number ahead of players who accomplished more individually while spending more time with the team in my opinion.

Yeah, I was gonna see how people responded to this thread before I went on to make one for Norm Van Lier. He is another Bull that would deserve consideration.

Maybe I'm in the minority of it ever happening...but I would really like to one day see both Van Lier & Gilmore in the rafters. They did a lot of good for the Franchise in their day.

He absolutely does. Behind Jordan, Pippen and maybe Van Lier, he is the 4th best Bull of all-time. Retire #53, then worry about retiring the likes of Rodman, etc.

When it's all said & done the rafters should still add Gilmore, Van Lier...and when it's his turn, Rose.

That's just me though.
