I was not aware of this parenting style till yesterday when I saw an interview with Mayim Bialik (Blossom) who uses this method to raise her children. I am not a parent yet, but hope to be one day and could not see myself breastfeeding a 3 and half year old or not using diapers for babies. I am all for developing a close bond with your child, but, this seems way over the top. They even have the children sleep with them in a "family bed." The link explains more of this philosophy and there is an interview with her. Of course she is pushing her new book.

Ok that is some messed up stuff right there. I don't think that if a kid is scared or has a bad dream that they can't sleep with their parents. But it shouldn't be an every night thing. The breast feeding thing is weird, kids shouldn't be old enough to remember breast feeding. The diaper thing just seems messy, I wouldn't want to be their housekeeper.

those kids are going to be fucked up. Breast feeding at three and a half years?? Shit, I was in school (JK) when I was three. I couldn't imagine coming home and being like "Hey Ma! Whip a tittie out and gimme some of dat milk!"

I knew a lady who was still breastfeeding when her kid was 8. Thought it was "good" for him and was going to do it until the kid no longer wanted to. Yeah, nutcase.

That is creepy and disgusting. Even if there was a medical/health reason for the kid to still have breast milk, she could have pumped and let him drink it from a glass. There is more going on there and the kid will probably be messed up because of it.

It must be more common than one would think because I saw a soap star say on TV that he breast fed till he was 7. He has terrible relationship problems and his mother plays a big part in that.

I saw the cover of her book and had to chuckle that they made sure to say, "Mayim Bialik, PHD"

I could be wrong, but I don't think her PHD has anything to do with child development/psychology...

Last I checked...weaning in just about every mammal (save monotremes) is supposed to happen once the kid's teeth come in.
