I think that is a more of an indictment on the interest of Big Ten sports than showing the interest level in the Fire.

Is there some contest going on for most posts? seems rather 'meh' to me. I'm not to particular on how many posts and where, just so long as people are talking about it. And again, trying to compete with the Section 8 Chicago forums for Fire talk is a bit silly, and there's 0 chance this place will catch up to Big Soccer. Just as I'm sure there are more active Big 10 forums elsewhere on the internets......no biggie.

No, there's no contest, just glad to see us pass the Big 10 forum, and we're not really competing for posts with S8 either. ;) You guys have WAY more posters interested in the Fire, if anything I'm jelly of that success. :D

What is the point in saying that?

The problem with the Chicago sports community is too many people are trying to "compete". A bunch of great singular "team" forums, however CCS is one of the only TRUE Chicago sports sites. I hate seeing so much separation between all of the good Chicago sports sites on the net.

Discussing a Chicago team on a Chicago sports site doesn't entail trying to compete. We have more then enough extended the olive branch to collaborate with Section8.

Too many people think of competition when it comes to forums instead of working together for a greater cause, which is uniting Chicago sports fans

I'm not looking at any one place for unifying all city sports, so I like what you guys are doing here--so don't get me wrong there.

What I was asking is why there is some weird pride on having more posts than another sub-forum on this site? It seems like a moot topic to me, as interest and discussion of all teams/topics/etc supersedes how many posts are in a forum, does that make sense?

using the S8 forum and/or Big Soccer is a comparison about the 'numbers' aspect I was just talking about. It's more about the substance of the conversation than the number of posts. So developing a solid community here (and/or elsewhere) is far more important to me than the simple number of posts. That should make sense. It wasn't about an actual 'competition' between forums of any dedicated sports fans, so no need to get ruffled there, it wasn't a dig or a put down to these forums.

Besides, I'm sure a few S8'ers have migrated over for chatter about the other areas they are interested in as well as the few posts I've seen in the Fire forum here, so that's a win for everyone then, yeah?

So yes, to your final point, we are in agreement as best I can tell.

Not ruffled, this is a message board for discussion, I was just putting in my own opinion.

I am 100% ok with Wrigley posting about the # of posts. It isn't a "OMG LOOK AT ME" type thread. Wrigley took the idea of a Fire forum and ran with it. Many said "A Fire forum? Soccer in America? That's lame, it'll get 20 posts and be dead" and it's been quite the opposite.

He's done a good job and he's just pointing out that the forum has been a success. It may not have the hardcore fans from S8 posting here but, our regulars post in here and that is fine with us. Only being in existence for a year and a couple months, once we're up as long as other sites have been we'll have more then enough Fire fans I think.

Correct, and that's my hope for it here. I know I represent a different perspective from many here anyhow, so it's no biggie when there's a difference of opinion. Hell, that's part of why i come back, to help add to the Fire discussions when I'm able.

Interestingly enough, with how involved I am with the Fire and S8C, it's nice to see the views of the others that post here--even when I obviously don't agree with some of them; and yeah, that's the point of the discussion forum, so that's not lost on me either Rush.

I'm glad the kid's doing well with the forum here. That's part of why I plan on staying--just like I said before. I'm just not concerned with the numerical part of the equation--since to me, the success of a Fire forum is a no-brainer (perhaps much contrary to the others you were mentioning that predicted this forum's early demise). But good on it if there is some barometer of success in the number of posts.
