A lot of smack talk from both sides leading up to this one. In the end, Conor McGregor whipped Alvarez like a dog from start to finish to win the Lightweight Title to go along with his Featherweight title. And it all happens at the first UFC card ever held in NY city. Epic

Khabib will fucking murder McGregor.

Let's be honest, it's not hard to win a fight when your opponent goes down like a senior on a winter sidewalk every time he's touched. Eddie "Jeremy Langford" Alvarez was a weak champion.

It's pretty sad that Dana White keeps giving everything to McGregor on a plate because he's the best salesman on his roster. He should have had the 145 title stripped from him for inactivity. One lucky punch against the division's GOAT and you get to keep it through a full calendar year without defending it? Bullshit.

If he actually gives Khabib the title shot he deserves, the 155 belt will be his and Conor will have to fight Aldo again.

I don't hate him at all. He mildly amuses me with some of his press conference antics, which is about the extent of my feelings about him one way or the other.

What I do dislike is that one person in a sport with a lot of parity and randomness is given so much preferential treatment based on him being a WWE-type salesman. Who else gets instant personal pride rematches while they should be defending their belt? Who gets sit on belts for entire calendar years without having to defend them?

Think about what he's been given.

- Wins FW belt with a freak single punch.

- Does Aldo get a rematch after losing the belt he's had for life to a single freak punch? No? Ok then, who does? Nobody. Instead of having to defend the belt he's just won in bizarre fashion, Conor gets to immediately challenge for another belt; the LW title against RDA. RDA gets hurt, so surely Conor should have to defend the FW belt? No. He gets a non-title freebie against Nick Diaz.

- Loses to Diaz. Ok, so surely NOW he has to defend his belt, right? Nope. Is given immediate personal pride rematch against Diaz while sitting on the FW belt again.

- Wins controversial decision against Diaz with half the UFC roster tweeting how Diaz won the fight.

- Ok, so personal pride restored somewhat. In all this time, the FW belt Conor has been allowed to sit on has remained needlessly inactive for so long that they need to put together an interim belt and let the top 2 guys, Aldo and Frankie Edgar. Aldo wins.

- So surely, SURELY now, McGregor must defend his FW belt against Aldo? Right? WHAT? No????? He gets another crack at the LW title, while his FW title which he won in 2015 will now not be contested until 2017 (at least). He got to sit on that belt from December 2015, all the way through his chosen pursuits in 2016, and into 2017.

That's absurd. Beyond absurd.

Get a grip, Ares.

It's a profit business and McGregor makes them bank.

The only issue here is the hypocrisy in that UFC likes to act like they are not subject to the same PR bullshit and fight fixing favorable matchups that boxing is subject to but they obviously are when it comes to McGregor.

You have a point but that wasn't a lucky punch. It was a counter punch and what Conor does best. Aldo always underwhelmed me. Usually a boring fighter but he tried to go after Conor from the start and that's why he went to sleep.

Khabib is a mauler. Conor could win if he could keep the fight on the feet but not sure that is at all likely. If Khabib wants to take you down, he's gonna take you down.

Dana advised Conor not to take Diaz 2nd fight and would rather he fight at featherweight but what to do when the guy makes your company worth 4 billion dollars?

I've taken Spartan's advice and given the sport a chance, so been keeping abreast of the goings on since then.

In part. Kinda the opposite of boxing, I find the lighter weights more entertaining (LW-MW range) whereas in boxing I'm all about the heavier divisions (MW-HW).

Yeah quite often the lighter weights are just so much faster and have better cardio/endurance.

Have you seen Demetrious Johnson fight? He fights at 125lbs, but is clearly a pound for pound best MMA fighter....

Light Heavy and Heavyweight tend to be interesting when it is a top 6 matchup including champions, but otherwise often boring if no quick KO.... it is the worst when they gas out in the first 2 mins and spend 2.5 rounds heaving with breath lol.

I have to ask you, what do you think of Michael Bisping? His victory over Luke Rockhold shocked me.... I think Romero is going to obliterate him lol

Now there's someone I do dislike - bisping. He annoys the **** out of me. I hate Rockhold too so I was happy he lost, but I hope romero beats Bisping.

I feel like Romero is going to beat the ever living **** out of Bisping.... probably a KO similar to when Hendo KO'd Bisping.

Gotta say I kinda like Bisping. Can see how his antics can annoy and push people away but he's a tough guy and overachiever. I like that combination. Know what he has?.....Moxy, that's what he has.

I think Romero's on all kinds of PEDs and hope they catch him before he kills Mike.

Speaking of the LHW and HW division, the Light Heavies has some good top talent but it's all about Jon Jones.... and he'll be back next July. In the HW division, there is good talent too. When Cain Velasquez is healthy and on, he's unbelievable.

Circus fight incoming. He doesn't want none of Khabib. I wouldn't either for as little as UFC guys make compared to top boxers. I'd take 50 to 100 million to get embarrassed by Mayweather
