So...all these years I was led to believe Mugs died of a heart attack but in reality Ginny offed her brother and screwed his kids out of their inheritance for pennies on the dollar. To cover up the murder, Ginny had the mayors machine remove Mugs organs and replace them with sawdust. That's some fucked up shit right there. Whether true or not I get a kick out of the newspaper article that stated there was nothing that could be done because there were no organs to test. Almost as if it was no big deal, nothing to see here...lol

If the McCaskey's choose to hold on to the Bears and think to divide up the payouts and treat it like a bank, they will find it no longer works how it worked for Grammy Ginny.

The steady stream of ticket/beer revenue will fall and voices within the NFL will push the McCaskeys to sell just to get a decent product on the field.

No team wants to play someone so inept the betting lines are dead by the 2nd Quarter in half the games.

I hope they do this, it will be hilarious to watch it crumble and them walk away with pennies on the dollar.

If you haven't read the book Papa Bear The Life and Legacy of George Halas, I would do soon. The fishy details are all in that biography and even delve deep into just how the manipulative nature and selfishness from Mugs' 1st wife really hurt her children getting any share or control of the Bears. Virginia is no angel either. Her conduct as owner of the team is a big fat middle finger to her father because he never approved the fact that she married Ed.

This oversells it. This is not uncommon when a grandparent lives so long. Initially Halas Jr. and Virginia had an equal split but then Viriginia had 11 kids to his 2. The reorganization was because the 2 Halas kids had shares worth 14.43% per kid while the McCaskey's were worth 5.83% each. After the reorg each kid had equal shares which is likely what Halas Sr wanted.

As for the voting rights, the intent was always for Halas Jr and Viriginia to hold the voting rights as the adults. Viriginia already had the voting rights for her kids and all that happened here is she then took the voting rights of Halas Jr kids so that the Halas family voted as one bloc and controlled the team. The real issue here is the Halas kids decided to sell their shares for only 17m. If they had held onto their shares they would be sitting pretty right now.

So this is really just family estate planning hence why the courts ruled as they did. Incidentally my father just did the same thing. Initially his estate was divided up amongst his kids but as we started having children of our own he changed the ownership to divy it up by grandchild. I ended up losing out in the process as I was the eldest son and had a larger share but my siblings out paced me in the having kids department. I have no issue with it as I accept it is better for it to be split amongst the children.
