I would have thought there would be record numbers in the 1st post-covid spring. Owners going off last two years losing numbers.

Two changes are imperative: electronic umpiring for balls/strikes and batters have to stay in the batter's box. The former will improve the offense because only hittable pitches -- pitches in the strike zone -- will be called strikes and the latter will shorten the games (until MLB owners allow media to sell more commercial time between innings to improve the bottom line, lest they lose the great tradition of four-hour World Series games).
