I heard ARob is very good at Tag. The Bears might never be able to catch him.

Tag and trades are very rare. Last time I recall this happening was Matt Cassel when he was tagged by the Pats and went to the Chiefs for a 2nd rounder.

That was for the QB position. This is for a WR where there's quite a few in free agency (Godwin, Juju, etc...) and this draft is largely regarded as very deep in that position.

IMHO if the Bears tag Robinson they are doing so hoping they can convince him to stay the following year.

The Bears don't have much leverage here because of this. Best they can do is package him and the 20th pick to move up in the 1st round and ask for a mid round + the 1st rounder.

Pretty sure Jarvis Landry was a tag and trade, but he only got a 4th rounder.

It's very rare because it's risky. If you have to release him you don't get any compensation, and teams can call your bluff. With a solid FA WR class and a really good draft class, it's going to be tough to get good value for him imo.

Fins got a 4th and a 7th rounder. And that was with a weak FA class that year too I think

Despite the Cap Hell, tagging him is probably the best thing for the long term success of the team as it gives them lots of options.

There are teams in the AFC especially that are close but know they need more firepower to get past KC: Indy, Baltimore, Buffalo to name a few. If you could get a 3rd for ARob this year in a tag and trade, you absolutely do that so we can have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds and really fill out a lot of holes we have had (LT/RT, WR, CB/LB).

If you cannot get a 3rd or higher for Arob then you sit on him for the year, still add weapons in the draft and you try and run it back. Don't forget:
  • We were 8-8 but actually should have been more like 10-6/11-5
    • Detroit Game 2, Minn Game 1, NO, Tenn
  • We were a dropped TD in the playoffs from a completely different game
  • We beat the SB Champs
We aren't perfect, by no stretch, but we are not that far off right now, but we have a very small window
