Ok- so what is the suggestion?
He has been a quarterbacks coach (what trestman was prety much chosen for), and OC (you do not want him to replace the OC who is an OC in title only, Trestman holds that job down), and a head coach.

What pray tell would you do with him?
What assistant level job would you offer a 2 time superbowl winning coach who has lost his edge?

He could be a consultant. Like Trestman did with the Saints. Nowhere was it implied even in the op to replace anyone.

I'm amazed how people claim Shanny lost his touch. Amazing how all of it went away the moments RG 3 got hurt last year in the playoffs. The whole season was a mess from him not being healthy, not lack of being coached
