Bears talk with @Rich_Campbell, who believes the Bears will continue with Charles Leno Jr over a healthy Jermon Bushrod.

Team can save over four million dollars next offseason if they terminate Bushrod's contract. However, the Vikes boast the best DL Leno has had to face and if he struggles...do the Bears flip flop on the kid?

He's played Aldon Smith, and Houston and the Vikings dont have an edge guy like that.

As long as they don't view Leno as a long term option

Right now, I would take Everson Griffen over Aldon Smith. I was proud of Leno V Houston.

You bring in better competition for him, but if he can get Bushrod off the books...I'll consider that a major win. This upcoming offseason could go so much better without glaring needs at OT and QB.

And Ansah is better the both of them. Leno has basically faced the murderers row of edge rushers.

Well I think the point is to find out if he is. Bushrods only going to get worse, Leno has shown some good things against some of the best edge rushers in the league. Nothing so far says he can't continue to develop into a solid left tackle.

It is the right move.

Let's see what Leno has.

Maybe he can be a long term option, we just don't know now.

In terms of pass rush, I feel that Leno is the better pass blocker but he is weak against the run. Bushrod seems to be the exact opposite, IMO. I think it's smart to stick with Leno & see if he's a guy that can hold down the LT spot & keep Long at RT. If they can solidify that, then they can focus on drafting a better RG & depth this offseason.

Bushrod is probably a gone goose next year, either way.

I'd give him a shot! He has earned it. Hali, Houston, Smith, and Ansah and Cutler is still walking around with all of his limbs attached. I think the kid deserves a chance to earn that spot long term.

If he can continue to play well and improve he could be a long term solution. I would definitely draft some competition but if we end up with two solid tackles at the end of this season I would consider that a highly unexpected surprise that I was not expecting week one.

Just had a random thought. With all of this money we are clearing out for next year, if bushrod goes as well. Do you think we would be in play for a big FA O-line or D-line guy? Or perhaps a premier DB/safety? One or two really good D-line / secondary guys could really help us up the hill.

I say give him a chance. Bushrod is a descending talent and knowing what you have in Leno will mean a lot come free agency and the draft. Having said that, cutler hasn't had a clean pocket since Leno has been starting. It's not all on Leno with Grasu having to start and Ducasse being the weakest link.

Bushrod would be an ideal candidate to offer up in a trade right now..2 teams come to mind who are in playoff hunt with big losses on OL. Patriots & Colts

I'm from the year 2065. The bears still haven't found a franchise left tackle.

Vlad is awful. I don't know who else they can have starting there.

Truthfully, Ansah kicked his ass, but I am impressed with his play, and he still has a lot of upside!!
