Initial thoughts - hope it turns out better than the trade for Bates. Seems like a similar situation where he's getting cut without a trade so probably could've signed him for less money.

My positive, irrational spin will be that he's familiar with Johnson, having played for the Lions. He was a pro bowl alternate in 2022. Will almost certainly be a better player than whoever Poles would've drafted in the 6th. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the offensive line makeover.

Your second paragraph is why I don’t mind at all. Clearly it was a guy Johnson wanted so it was a good move by Poles. Unlike Jackson hitting FA, Poles made it a guarantee to get one of Johnson’s guys.

I wonder if they are thinking C or LG?

I know nothing but will hope LG solely so there's no possibility of them trotting out Jenkins and him and hoping they'll both hold up over the season. Already played that gamble, not looking for another repeat of Jenkins durability being key to the OL's success.
