BOURBONNAIS -- The Bears wrapped up their fifth practice of the summer Monday at Olivet Nazarene University, another workout that exceeded 2 hours, 15 minutes.
Safety Major Wright left practice with a tweaked groin muscle after picking off Caleb Hanie over the middle and didn't return. Coach Lovie Smith said the injury wasn't thought to be serious.
Quarterback Jay Cutler continues to target Johnny Knox in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 passing drills. He was the intended target on nine of 27 pass plays on the day and that is pretty much how it has gone through the early part of camp.
While we saw a lot of deep throws from Cutler to tight end Greg Olsen early in training camp last summer, the first big one this year didn't happen until Monday when Cutler hit Olsen on a seam route between the safeties. It was a big play like the one the pair completed last season against Pittsburgh. Cutler wasn't very accurate in 7-on-7 as he completed only 6-of-12 passes but he got better in team drills.
Safety Chris Harris (back), wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias (quad) and running back Harvey Unga (hamstring) were held out. Coach Lovie Smith announced Sunday that Iglesias had a groin muscle injury, but amended the report.
"We'll see how serious it is," Smith said.
Some other highlights:
*** Julius Peppers made his presence known with a physical rush on Chris Williams.
*** Veteran safety Josh Bullocks continues to show up making some plays.
*** Smith singled out cornerback D.J. Moore for making some plays with the second team at the nickel position.
*** Rookie J'Marcus Webb was stout with the second team at right tackle.
*** On a shuffle pass inside by Cutler, running back Matt Forte looked faster and more explosive than last season.
*** No false start issues for Frank Omiyale.
