Not gonna call him a top-pairing defenseman by any means, but I think he's been playing a LOT better of late.

Saw this tweet just now, too.

For a third-pairing defenseman, I think he's doing alright.

He has been playing better...but that is only because he set the bar so low early on in the season. He has taken a big dip in ice time over the last two games due to some brutal play in his own end. He is looking more confident out there (particularly in the offensive zone) but if the Blackhawks have him in the lineup during the playoffs, I can't imagine much good coming of it. Personally, I enjoy a #5/6 dman that you don't even notice out there - TVR did a nice job of that early on in the season. Rundblad can hurt you and that is probably one of the last things you need from a #5/6 guy.

Using +/- to justify Rundblad shows why +/- is such a goofy stat. Soooo much more goes into that +/- and most of it has nothing to do with Rundblad.

Agreed on the +/- but that's a damn good Corsi number. I know that's also not a be-all, end-all stat, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

I like some of what he's done on the offensive end, too. Noticed on multiple occasions where he's used a head fake or some other move to open up a shooting lane for himself.

He sucks. His defensive game blows and during crunch time his ass is on the bench. Rather we kept the 2nd rounder.

I'd feel more comfortable with him playing with Hammer over Oduya at this point.

What I don't like is Rundblad makes a mistake, and Q benches him for the rest of the game. Oduya makes 3 of those same mistakes in a shift, and everything is peaches and fucking cream.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I was going to say...I have Runblad 4-5 on the depth chart...depending on TVR's status when he comes back.

I'm more comfrtable with him on the ice than Oduya or Rosival in key moments, but they should save the heavy lifting for Hammer and Seabrook.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I want Rundblad out on the ice with 1:00 left in a Game 7 while the Hawks are nursing a one-goal lead.

But I'm getting more and more confident that he can adequately eat up some of those minutes in the game's first 50 minutes which will allow the proven D-men like Keith/Seabrook/Hammer to be better rested for those high-pressure moments at the end of games.

Rundblad huh... more like Rundbad... huh.. huh amirite!... anyway, I still have no fucking clue how Corsi is factored... I just know that it's a measure of overall ability but no idea what is good and what is bad. And I thought some people say it's as subjective as any other stat?

Corsi is total shots attempted while that player is on ice, including shots that are blocked or miss the net.

So if Rundblad's Corsi rating is 57.6, that means that, while he's on the ice, 57.6 of attempted shots on the ice are happening by the Blackhawks. It's supposed to be a better (but far from perfect) way to measure puck possession.

Still hope TVR returns as Rundblah is painful to watch defensively.

When TVR comes back I would take him and Rundblad over him and T-Roz..... Rozival is too fucking slow.... at least if Rundblad has to race a guy back to try and cover a blown play he has some legs....

At this point when other teams play us it must be like:

"Keys to the game... 1. Get Rozival in a foot race... 2. Win"

Ok... so if I'm understanding it, basically they are in the offensive zone more often than not when he is on the ice?

Yeah, I really don't think anyone could invoke the fury as much as Rosi does these days. It's hard to watch him play. And he still get's 16+ minutes per game.

Agreed. His numbers are what they are because he has the most sheltered minutes of anyone on the team.
