Ed Belfour was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on his first try on Tuesday, and will enter the shrine along with fellow one-time Toronto Maple Leafs Doug Gilmour and Joe Nieuwendyk. Defenceman Mark Howe was also elected to the Class of 2011, which will be inducted on Nov. 14 in Toronto. Belfour is third all-time in goalie wins with 484, and twice won the Vezina Trophy. He also captured the Calder Trophy with Chicago and claimed the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999. Five of the six goalies directly behind him on the wins list are already in the Hall of Fame.

Gilmour, with 1,414 points over 20 seasons, was a Selke Trophy winner who was known for his gutsy playoff performances. He is part of an exclusive group of players who averaged more points per game during the playoffs (1.15) than the regular season (.96). A natural leader, Gilmour captained both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks.

Nieuwendyk, with 564 career goals, goes into the Hall of Fame on his second attempt. He is one of just nine players to have won a Stanley Cup with three different teams, and is the owner of 93 career game-winning goals. Nieuwendyk played for Calgary, Dallas, New Jersey, Toronto, and Florida.

Howe was a three-time runner-up for the Norris Trophy and twice appeared in the Stanley Cup Final with the Philadelphia Flyers. One of Gordie Howe's hockey-playing sons, Mark Howe netted 1,246 points over 22 seasons split between the World Hockey Association and the NHL. Howe was a six-time NHL all-star.

Howe over Housley?

Not sure about that one, either way can't really argue with leaving Lindros, Bure, Leclair, and Fleury out of it. At some point they may make it but this year was not the time for them.

I bet I can tell you which one is most likely to be dead before he get's in.

Yes, those years are why Gilmour shouldn't be in the HHOF, not like the 1400+ pts in as many games mean anything.

How many cups did he win? One? How many times did he take his team to the Finals?

Look at his goal totals over 20+ seasons - seemed to average 25. Sorry I'm not blown away by these numbers.

There's more to hockey than goals, Fluffy. I thought I missed your inane comments when you were gone, but now I am not so sure.

blows my mind that Gilmour and Howe were taken, but Housely, Larmer and Bure were passed over.

Fine - you go celebrate Doug Gilmour's addition to the Hall then. I'm headed to the toilet.

@TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie

For those asking about Mark Howe: 1st-team all star in 1983, 1986, 1987. That means he was top 2 in entire NHL at his pos'n those 3 years.

@TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie

More Howe: 16 NHL seasons, 6 WHA seasons, 8 NHL seasons with 15 or more goals.

And a career +400.

Mark Howe? really?

He won what exactly?

Agreed. I liked him when he played, but being healthy is not HOF worthy.

Larmer? Larmer? Anyone?

Was fine until I saw Gilmours name.

For those questioning Howe they can also question Gilmour. What exactly did he ever win?

List sort of sucks to be honest. Not one of the better inductee years in my opionion.

Eddie and Joe certainly do deserve it. Not too sure about the other 2. I am being dead honest about Gilmour also not only because I hate his gutts. What did he ever accomplish other than give the Leafs fans little boners? His awards shelf at the NHL level is empty.

Larmer before either of those 2. Fucking joke to be honest.
