Just throwing a name out there that I haven't heard mentioned on this forum.. Ben Cherington, the assistant GM for the red sox, would be a good get. Theo, cashman, and Friedman all were assistants before becoming GMs and Cherington has worked with Theo In Boston for a long time and I think he's ready. It's worth a shot for the cubbies:pray:

Just to make it clear, I don't think this is the best man for the job, personally I am on the Friedman bandwagon but I think Cherington would be a good back up pla, just wanted to hear all of your guys thoughts on this

My thoughts are that you should open your eyes and see that Theo is all but here.

Why the hell would he want to come here when he actually has a good staff, good players, and a winning tradition in Boston? If you have a good answer then I'll admit your rit but I'm just confused as to why he would leave that for the cubs :dunno:

Cherington is on the same level as Hahn is w/ me. Friedman and Theo are 1a and 1b....Hahn and BC are further down the list...but 3 and 4 at the same time? haha

I think if they dont get Theo that he be next best decision. Ricketts has said he wants BOS model. So you get 1 of 2 guys to start that up

I love how CO asks everyone else for a source, yet he knows for sure Epstein is coming

If he wins, he's automatically one of the best GMs of all-time, because he "broke the curse."

lol, bold assumption

Not really. He's the only GM whose name is being connected to the Cubs at this point.

Do you have a link or source for that?

Here's 448. epstein to the cubs - Google Search

I never made a definitive statement, but to think he isn't coming here at this point is just a bit ridiculous. I mean for god's sake there are at least 3 articles a day posted in the epstein thread about him coming here. No other names are being mentioned. 2+2=4.

That's speculation. I get 1,000+ results for google search of Epstein with Red Sox. You can say you want him to come here, but it's far from a sure thing.

If the Epstein to the Cubs falls apart, Ben Cherrington would be a great hire IMHO and I don't think the Cubs would need to compensate the Red Sox to hire Cherrington. Again this is only if Epstein doesn't become the GM of the Cubs

I don't think Cherrington would come here. I read somewhere that he is willing to wait to become the BoSox GM. Maybe he would, but I don't think it's a given like one might think.
