A Guitar Solo is either a song on its own, or a part of a song that has the guitarist playing alone, or the melody of the rest of the band moves into the background, as one guitarist goes at it. Hence the word SOLO.

One of my faves is the outro of "Caravan" by Utopia. Todd Rundgren lays waste to his axe and then proceeds to engage keyboardist Roger Powell in a game of H-O-R-S-E.

Also, Tosin Abasi is awesome on his Solo album Animals as Leaders. A seriously amazing album if you're into progressive metal with a jazzy and electronic side. Although, there aren't really a lot of straight solos as much as just full songs full of amazing guitar work.

This is the dumbest thing you have ever said about music dero, and I think you know this LOL.

1/2 of them are indeed "rock" guitarists, but they sure as hell aren't playing rock riffs in their solo. But I know, I know, you just want some jazz guitar, so... whats stopping you?

I'm at work now so I can go off on this thread but I will say that a lot of the old Blues and Spanish/latin guitars would easily run away with this

I also hate his music, but Brad Paisley can really pick it. He has some excellent guitar solos. I just refuse to post any of his music because I think he is a poser.

Altitudes by Jason Becker. This has always been my favorite piece of guitar work ever. Unbelievable emotion behind this song/solo. If you look into Jason Becker, it's a tragic story.

This is a bass solo but Matt Freeman's bass solo in Rancid's Maxwell Murder is incredible. Complete beast on the bass. It starts about a minute into the song.
