that's awesome about Turturro, would love to chat with him. He seems pretty crazy on film (Barton Fink?) but was he pretty down to earth?
Also, that Tribe doc is awesome. Rappaport is one of those guys that seems to get type cast because of his accent but really endears himself to whatever movie he's in. Loved him in Zebrahead and True Romance.
Definitely look for the One Eyed Jimmy flick - John Turturro is hilarious, his bro Nick's character is funny as hell and the whole film seems to be a bunch of guys having the time of their lives playing a bunch of neighborhood jackasses.
He was about as down to earth as they come, and at the time ('93?) he seemed really psyched that he could have a career as a writer-director. I don't see why he couldn't have. His shit was miles above tripe like Kevin Smith, but hey... (tangential, but ever see Buscemi's 'Trees Lounge?' Good shit. His follow-up writing-directing effort 'Lonesome Jim' sucked, though.)
It's not like we were buddies hanging out. He screened "Mac" and had an informal Q&A/Meet&Greet after, but he was totally willing to shoot the breeze with everyone after the screening for however long they wanted to talk. Not sure why he hasn't tried writing other stuff. You should look for "Mac", his bros are in it too and it's semi-autobiographical.
Zebrahead was great. I'm one of the only people who thought True Romance was overrated, maybe just got turned off by the retrospective hype.
Will look for One eyed Jimmy. And Cicero, and formerly Berwyn -- got it.
