Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano will return to bullpen after suspension - ESPN Chicago

After his suspension is up, Z will head back to the pen ands Gorzo will take his spot.

I hate this for 2 reasons:

1) Now it will be harder to trade Z and it will mess him up again as the Cubs will be stuck with him. (I like that he won't beb traded but hate the 2nd part.)

2) Why Gorzelanny to the rotation and not Cashner? If I had to take a guess, I say showcase him for a trade.

Thoughts?

I think we should just cut our losses. See if we can pay 75% of his contract and trade him somewhere in the AL.

I get the feeling that the Cubs will cut Big Z in the offseason and eat the rest of his salary if they don't trade him at the deadline (Which they'd still have to eat a substantial amount of Zambrano's albatross deal)

It really is a shame what happened to Zambrano. I used to watch some Cubs games to see him pitch. Now when I tune in, he's a mess or coming out of the bullpen. His emotions are messing with his head. Hopefully he can learn to control himself better in the future. I'd like to see more from Z.

I will miss Z, I still ove him and always want to watch him. I think being demoted to the pen, he will not waive his NTC and that is what the coaching staff is thinking.

Just trade him away. I know he has a no trade clause but I'm so sick of him

They're not going to release him. This new ownership group just paid almost a billion dollars for the franchise, and after hearing them preach about fiscal responsibility, they are not about to eat the $36 million that would be owed to him.

They could trade him, I guess, but as you said, that would be almost the same as releasing him as they would assuredly have to pay a LARGE portion of his remaining deal. And if they did either of those things, it would fly in the face of everything the owners have been saying about how the team will be run since assuming control. It's just not happening.

Just trade him away. I know he has a no trade clause but I'm so sick of him

Well since he has a full NT-clause, that's not really up to the team, is it?

I absolutely hate the way the Cubs have handled Zambrano all season long. Is anyone really surprised he blew up at this point? If you keep throwing sparks at a firecracker its going to go off eventually.

I don't hate how they've handled him. He couldn't pitch at the start of the season, and we had too many pitchers...so move him to the bullpen and see if you can fix some of his issues 1 inning at a time...

Now, knowing how Z would handle maybe should've deterred the Cubs from taking that approach, but at the end of the day you have to expect an adult to act like an adult...and Z doesn't do that very often.

trade him.
but if no one wants to deal with his antics, keep him in the bullpen and don't bring him in unless we're losing like 14-2 and let him get his brains beat in.

No the Cubs have to do that with Grabow and Howry.
