Bill Simmons: 2011 NBA All-Star Game breakdown - ESPN

Relevance In the Moment: LeBron's best game is still better than anyone else's best game; he's now underrated, which seems impossible, but it's true. (As witnessed by the fact that I will get incredulous e-mails about the previous paragraph.) Meanwhile, Derrick Rose has been this season's most valuable player; Howard, LeBron and Amare are a semi-distant 2-3-4 in some order. That makes Dwyane Wade the least relevant Eastern starter. Read that sentence again

Bill Simmons is a blubbering fool who lucked into a job @ espn and is popular due to the fact that he has the most downloaded podcast on iTunes, mainly b/c it's FREE.

that being said, I hope he's right :)

lol...now that is a different story. I just love to hear him talk basketball, and social media stuff, not big on his baseball and football stuff, but he does have good, competent guest while talking about those subjects...

I will retract all my statements against him then, seeing as he apparently knows at least one sport.

Yeah, he absolutely knows the NBA. His basketball book is a good read despite him claiming the 86 Celtics were a better team than the 96 Bulls.

The non-stop New England love does get a bit old.

Bill Simmons predictions are also frequently more accurate than any of the other guys at ESPN. He may play the joker but he knows what he's talking about.

Question:

If Rose will not become MVP this season, do you think he will become MIP instead?

Westbrook would be in that conversation, too.

I'd say it will go to either Eric Gordon, Kevin Love, Mike Conley, Jr., or Raymond Felton.

I find it hard to believe anyone other than Kevin Love will win MIP. If Durant couldn't win for the leap from star to super-star he made last year I don't see Rose winning this year.

This.

Haven't read the book yet ( I want too badly), but a buddy of mine told me about the 86 Celtics reference.. That was homer on his part.

Bill Simmons "Now I Can Die in Peace" is a great book. Then again I'm a Red Sox fan so..yeah. His baseball stuff isn't terrible but he is much stronger on basketball. I don't even listen to anything he has to say about football.
